Canterbury East - Dover Priory

Just wondering what seems to be going on today as there was a board up the other day saying trains would use Platform 1, but there's no way to get it back on the right track to Dover without a shunt in the other direction (which would mean Platform 2, the usual platform for Dover, would be used). Are trains running on a single track to Dover or something?

A quick look on the NR website shows Platform 3 being used for Canterbury, Platform 1 for HST and Platform 2 for mainline as is normally the case.

There are only 2 platforms at Canterbury East. It was probably an error. Platform 2 has to be used for Dover trains but faversham trains can use any platform.

Single Line Working was in use between Canterbury East and Shepherdswell

Has the crossover south of Canterbury East been removed or something? I know that when I used to travel on that route daily, (including weekends) and where there were engineering works, trains would go in to Canterbury East Platform 1 and then go back from the same platform and then use the correct platforms at the next station (Bekesbourne)

Interesting Streetview shows it but the satellite view doesn't - http://goo.gl/maps/03HzX

Ahh that would make sense - weird thing to do, I'm guessing they're doing something to the signals on the Faversham side of the station so they can't do a shunt move...

As far as I'm aware I can only see the signal for a cross over on the Faversham side, this is regularly used on a Sunday when every other train terminates at Canterbury East rather than continuing to Dover. I think the Dover side has a small signal and set of points to a siding that never gets used

The one to the east of Canterbury East (presume that's what you meant by south?) was removed some time ago, February 2013 I think.
