Can't get refund due to Glasgow Central disruption

My Avanti West Coast train to Birmingham, booked through the forum ticketing platform, is cancelled due to the disruption. I booked a slightly later train, which I had to book from Motherwell as GLC is not available as an option at the moment.

Going through the refund procedure for the original ticket, I'm not being refunded because the journey is now different - MHT rather than GLC. How do I navigate around that? Thanks for any help.

Why did you refund and rebook? Your existing tickets remain valid on two trains before/two trains after the cancelled one. Was it cheaper?

If you are within the grace period, you may wish to refund the new journey if this is more beneficial to you. You get an hour to do this I think (until 1st April).

Also, if you wish to refund due to a cancellation you should select that option, it looks like you have just selected change of Advance, which incurs a £10 admin fee. Contact customer services if necessary. If refunding due to a cancellation you do not need to give the replacement ticket details as there may not be one.

As a general note, GLC is available. You just have to change at Motherwell and travel to the low level station.

(edited slightly, my previous post slightly misunderstood)

Thanks for your prompt response.

I'm rebooking to have certainty of my journeys and a reserved seat, I imagine the trains could be quite crowded due to the disruption. Price was identical.

I spotted the customer service button after I posted so I've contacted them. I'm keeping an eye on the clock for the one hour grace period, but hopefully they'll handle it within the time.

Your original train has been cancelled, so you are entitled to a full refund. The one hour grace period doesn't (or shouldn't) come into it.

As this is a disruption refund, also check these instructions - it sounds like you tried to put it through as a change of journey which would incur a £10 admin fee, not a disruption refund:

I made this suggestion because the poster may be better off refunding the new ticket. It didn't need to be purchased, and would be subject to Delay Repay, which rebooking would not.

If reservations on another train are desired Customer Services may well do that (or the GWR site if it's working at the moment).

Finally, is the original train actually cancelled throughout, or is it diverted to Edinburgh? If the latter the poster may be better off using it as far as Carlisle then changing.

Customer Service have already responded and said they are refunding the original ticket - that was fast!

My original train was cancelled, not diverted. Thanks again for everyone’s helpful advice.
