Hello,

I am attempting to run BVE4 for the first time, and the program crashes when it starts, giving the following error:

Code:
Description:
  Stopped working

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:	CLR20r3
  Problem Signature 01:	bve.exe
  Problem Signature 02:	4.2.1947.25355
  Problem Signature 03:	42748274
  Problem Signature 04:	mscorlib
  Problem Signature 05:	2.0.0.0
  Problem Signature 06:	48ead7c2
  Problem Signature 07:	343f
  Problem Signature 08:	21c
  Problem Signature 09:	System.IO.IOException
  OS Version:	6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
  Locale ID:	2057

So far I have:

Followed the instructions to copy across and register the directX dll's as found on a sticky from this site

installed the west midlands routes from bve4.net

installed the correct trains as defined in the csv file.

Can anyone help me to proceed, before I have to go and fork out £30 on Railworks or MSTS?

Dave

"Stopped working"

Sounds like you are trying to run it on Vista. Even after the Vista fixes (followed to the letter) I still never managed to get it to work on my Vista machine, so even they are sketchy. You will find the Vista fixes here: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=13429

But to be honest, if you're not that technically oriented, I'd be wary about following them!

That looks suspiciously like a .NET Framework issue. If you trawl through the sticky you mentioned I posted instructions of how to go about fixing it. Give it a go and if it still doesn't work I'll post some more specific instructions here of what may work for you :).
