Cannot cope with EMT guard announcements

I'd much rather have any manual announcement than the prerecorded rubbish on Pendos which play at a ridiculous volume.

I don't understand why people are getting upset about being warned that Advances are only valid on the booked train? A good number of East Coast guards will give the same warning. It may seem common sense to those of us versed in the railways but I can bet you that I'll be asked several times during my shift today if people can catch an earlier train with their Advance ticket - how many more will not bother asking and jump on the train anyway?

I can agree with this.
But as to the wearing of headphones, I can still hear that there is an announcement going out, over even moderately loud music.
If I hear an announcement and we are not approaching a station then I will certainly listen. (Other than "Please familiarise yourself with the safety notices throughout the train" just as we leave Watford Junction)

But if one is constantly bombarded with announcements, you soon filter them out.

It is very true. TOC's can be fined by the Government if they do not comply to do Transec announcements.

So why do some TOC's not do them? I am never reminded that if I see anything suspect I must tell the police (duh) when I travel XC. I am constantly reminded to do this when I travel FGW.

This is still prevalent in old CT land, e.g. the Robin Hood and Grantham lines.

I'll concur with that....unless of course it's the Mem who is the guard. She says herself you wouldn't miss one of her announcements - then again she used to be a teacher so has a commanding voice.

As for the situation about announcements...it never used to happen much on trains until when exactly...? People managed to alight at their station; mind you that was probably more when people only took local journies (within 20 miles) and stations had staff that stood on the platform calling out the station name as the train arrived. In some respect it marks the social decline from a point where people knew the journey they were undertaking to seemingly nowadays where they hardly aware of their surroundings.
