Cancelled Parliamentery services

I note this morning the 07:04 from Goole to Leeds is cancelled due to a train fault and is instead starting at Knottingley (albeit heavily delayed)

So, what rights do the passengers between Knottingley and Goole have in this case? Do Northern have to organise taxi / bus transport to Knottingley or do the passengers basucally get told 'tough luck'?

Remember, for some of these places this is the ONLY train service towards Leeds for the day!

I was once at Eaglescliffe Station when a GrandCentral service got cancelled. They had arranged for a local taxi firm to call at the station, advise passengers of the cancellation and transport them all to Darlington. I'd like to think that Northern have put similar arrangements into place but ...?

The evening train from Goole to Leeds surprisingly runs towards Leeds so the morning train is .not the only train of the day. Presumably Northern had a taxi or bus service in operation as is normal when trains are cancelled.

Goole passengers should travel on 0717 to Doncaster and then 0756 to Leeds, arriving about Half hour after the scheduled arrival of the through train. There are only a handful of Goole passengers, often none from Rawcliffe and a couple of dozen perhaps from Snaith.

Luckily certainly the Snaith lot have back up plan and either leave there cars in car park or the lift waits till the train arrives for a quick sprint upto Selby/South Milford in case of cancellation.

I'm not sure I would describe the Goole service as parliamentary, limited yes but it does provide a useful commuter service, unlike the real parliamentaries which don't really provide any useful service.

There was a coach booked to leave Goole at 0709 calling all stations to Knottingley. Unfortunately with no info screens on any station bar Goole and I don't know about announcements no one will have got on it

Interesting - does it actually stop at Beckenham Jct and New Beckenham though? There used to be one that left the bay platform and then went round to New Beckenham at about 16:00.

If the service is in the official timetable,the toc must run some kind of service,however no two tocs are the same, some forget the only reason they have a franchise is to transport people.
My opinion of course..

Its not clear what is being asked but either alternative trains or taxi (depending on the journey)

And it depends what is meant by "parliamentary", arguably any train that runs more than once a week isn't a " parliamentary" service.

And no they do not have to run "a service" as such. They simply have to get you there. That is likely to be on other operators trains in the case of goole to knottingley/Leeds.

I think for the sake of this discussion the 07:04 from Goole can be described as the only train from Rawcliffe, Snaith, Hensall and Whitley Bridge unless you think being stranded at a station for over 11 1/2 hours is acceptable.

There are no PA system installed at Rawcliffe, Snaith, Hensall or at Whitley Bridge, although I do believe that there still is phonebox at Rawcliffe, a help point at Snaith, Hensall's got a siggy box - so maybe getting the attention of the signalman in the safest possible manner may be of some use and there is nowt at Whitley Bridge.

Would be nice to see a slightly better service intoruced that could run from Wakefield Kirkgate to Goole and upon leaving Knotingley call at Snaith and Goole only.

If you don't know the train has been cancelled (as there are no announcements) why would you look at the Twitter feed? (Besides which, mobile reception in that part of East Yorkshire is pretty awful.)

I would expect most passengers would check before they travel if the service is so limited. I do and I have a fair few to choose from.

I think it only runs once a day about 2.00pm then returns back at 2.10pm. But it runs empty to Wandsworth Road, then stops their, then West Brompton then Olympia.

Pretty certain it doesn't. I believe since LO took over the SLL from Southern the junction that negated the service is now used regularly

It must be frustrating being at such stations and waiting and waiting without being aware of such delays. The cheapest solution would be to make sure there is at least a help point to customer services or the signaller for the line who can give advice to the passenger.

Also, on the posters/noticeboards could be a contingency plan should these parlys not run ie: if the Denton service isn't running, then a taxi will be arranged to call in the trains place in the next 30 mins calling everywhere on to Stalybridge.

There is certainly no parly service, indeed, but the route of the old parly can still be used by Southern in emergencies - and is. The route no longer in regular passenger service is Longhedge Jn - Latchmere 1 Jn. Some Southern drivers/conductors just sign the route from Tulse Hill towards Factory Junction and then London Victoria via the Chatham Lines, but others also sign Latchmere 1 Jn - Longhedge Jn - Factory Jn to link up the WLL with the Chatham Lines, so that Clapham Junction - Streatham North Junction (inclusive) can be avoided. Yet others will not sign either route!
