Hi,

Just out of interest (and in case this ever actually happens), what would happen if the last train from Exeter to Honiton was cancelled and I had a Devon Evening Rover?

Would SWT still be responsible for getting me to my destination via, for example, taxi given that my ticket doesn't specify where I'm going?

Or if I were delayed from Tiverton to Exeter and missed a valid connection to the last train?

Thanks!

Yes, they would need to get you to your destination.

It would certainly strengthen your case if you had an itinerary for the journey, especially if you are reliant on tight connections and/or looking for the last train of the day. Not necessary, though would show clear intent in the case of argument.

I don't see why there should be any argument at all, but perhaps things vary in different parts of the country.

All I can say is that whenever I have needed alternative transport due to cancellation or missed connection I have never been asked to show a ticket when I presented myself to the relevant person.

No requirement whatsoever to carry a written, printed or electronic itinerary (provided you have allowed enough time to catch the last connections). However, it is useful advise to carry one.

Yes.

They have to get you to your intended destination providing your ticket(s) held are valid for the journey and it's a valid itinerary.

Websites that will produce a valid itinerary include any train company's booking site, National Rail Enquiries, www.fastjp.com and others. (Not applicable to this journey, but for completeness: you cannot use TfL's journey planner for this purpose)

(I agree that there is no requirement whatsoever to carry evidence of any such an itinerary; rail staff can - and probably will - do their own checks. That said, when timetables have changed at short notice, there have been cases where it has been useful to have evidence that the itinerary was a valid one at the time the contract was formed)
