Cancellations due to "bumps"

While looking on Raildar I noticed several Greater Anglia services were cancelled due to bumps. I have to say that is a new one on me. Bumps on what? Rough riding on the track? Unexplained bumping on the stock?

Seems rather vague and I'm just somewhat curious!

I I read somewhere that bumps may be due to flatspots in the rail (caused for example by a locked up wheel on an earlier train) and is an indication of probable weakness in the rail that could become a broken rail?

I think some wheels have sensors fitted to detect unusual bumps?

If you get a locked up wheel you will get a flat spot on the wheel this will give a bump effect and you will hear it as well.
A Flat on the rail or worse, may be caused by a wheel spin creating a Wheelburn usually noticeable by being in the pattern of the wheel outline of the loco involved.
Another cause would be by a flaw in the rail such as Tache Ovale but that will be a manufacturing issue.
Most rail faults will be dealt with fairly rapidly by rail replacement.
