I have been issued a Penalty Charge Notice for travelling in a Bus Lane on Bank Holiday Monday. The Bus Lane is in use Monday to Friday, but I assumed that Bank Holidays were an exception. Can anyone confirm whether or not Bus Lanes are suspended on Bank Holidays? Do I have grounds for an appeal?

The Bus Lane is in the London Borough of Bromley.

It is Monday to Friday, so I would imagine that it is including Bank Holiday Mondays.

Unless it says Monday to Friday except Bank Holidays then you drove in the bus lane at the time when it was operational whether or not buses were operating at their usual weekday frequency.

Two seperate questions. The bus lane will probably be in force if it is Mon-Friday.

However there may still be grounds for appeal. Visit pepipoo for detailed advice, you may even find someone else who has appealed a ticket in the same location and won on a technicality.

Can't answer your question directly, but I had a similar situation with a disabled parking area opposite where I live which is only in operation Monday to Saturday daytimes. I parked there on a Bank Holiday thinking that the Sunday relaxation applied, only to get a ticket. When I investigated the subject on the internet I discovered that it was up to individual local authorities how they treated Bank Holidays, and in the case of many of them, like my own, they were deliberately vague e.g. 'it should be assumed that parking regulations are not suspended on Bank Holidays unless specifically indicated', so I didn't bother appealing.

I think it's worth appealing to TfL (as I think bus lanes will be them not LBB) though internet search suggests the public holiday thing is ambiguous. You could argue eg that on public transport the day is treated like a Sunday....

Whether that will get you anywhere is another matter.

Many thanks for all your replies. Having looked at the suggested websites, I believe that I have no grounds to appeal. The compelling argument is that the plate said "Monday to Friday", and not "Monday to Friday Bank Holidays excepted".

I am now wiser but £65 poorer:(
