Can you still put your car on the Caledonian Sleeper?

I wonder if they'd be much of a market for the service now?

Slightly off topic but... does anyone else find it crazy that you now get links on some train booking sites, getting old can't remember which one(s), that offer to take your luggage (for a fee) by road while you pootle down on the train

Next year I will be courier posting my Xmas presents up to Glasgow before I get the train. Makes perfect sense especially with the weather issues we are having this year

How I mourn the demise of the old Red Star train courier service:cry:

Going back to the original topic. We did the sleeper on a bargin berth to Inverness in October and hired a car for £23 per day while we were there. No need for Motorail when that option is available. Easy too as the hire company will pick you up and drop you off in time with the sleeper.

If this is of interest to you, page 1280 of my trusty British Rail passenger timetable (1st June 1981 to 16th May 1982) has a full-page advertisement for the Red Star parcel service, headed...
"The parcel service of the future will run along these lines"

Was City Link also once a similar rail-owned facility ?

City Link wasn't owned by BR, but they made door-to-door deliveries via Red Star.

The name originally referred to London, being as Red Star couldn't send a parcel on a cross-London transfer (and so CL would do that leg by van).

In a surprise breaking development Scotrail have confirmed that as of this evening's services, provision for the carriage of these will be provided at no additional cost! :)
