As the price of bus fare for me now is the same as tickets, I find it's easier to just take the train. However I don't always have the money all in cash or all on card. So I was wondering if it's possible to pay for some with cash and some with card like they have in self checkouts at the shops.

Yes. Ticket machines it may not be possible, staffed locations should be able to do it.

Just be aware that some locations will have a minimum card transaction amount (e.g. 50p) below which the system won’t allow for a card payment.

You, but only at staffed sales points. However, as the price of a bus fare is capped at £3 don't expect anyone to be appreciative of you messing about splitting such a small amount.
