He got off a train from Birmingham (BHM) that was going to Euston (EUS) but he alighted at his home town of Rugby (so no, he didn't go to Euston!), where he saw a Class 56 loco (no 56312) enter platform 6 from the Up Yard, the train reversed and went back to the Yard. He would like to know why this movement took place.

On a train somewhere in Europe
Because it was on a Hams Hall to Daventry train which was booked to call at Rugby. As the yard is single ended (only accessible from the south), the train would have to pull up towards the station and reverse to get in there.
