13/11/2017 1253 Inverness [INV] to Edinburgh [EDB] 1B31

departed late from INV as driver was on a delayed incoming service, then 17 late at Perth PTH. Conductor announced (somewhat wearily) that Control had decided in their wisdom to run fast to Haymarket [HYM] thus inconveniencing all passengers for intermediate stations (MNC, KDY, INK & EGY) of which there were many on the platforms as we went past. Indeed we were right time at HYM and 1L (almost 2E) at EDB because of platform availability.
Why was this done, as if it kept time to EDB then connections at 1700 (KGX) 1653 (EUS) would still have been comfortable
