Can LNER 70 minute flex tickets be used on any route?

Apologies if this has been asked before. I found a very cheap 70 minute flex ticket from London to Edinburgh that unfortunately changes at Leeds for a XC service. Does any alternate itinerary I take have to follow the same route or am I free to choose my own adventure?

Usual caveats of not valid on Lumo Avanti etc
