My Over-60s Oystercard stopped working a couple of days ago. I've ordered a replacement through the TfL website, which says it will take 5-7 days to arrive. If I need to use trains in the few days before it turns up, is it possible to reclaim the spending from TfL and if so what is the procedure? Should I get paper tickets and use those as the basis of my claim? Also buses - do they even do paper tickets any more?

I don’t know about reclaiming but, no, no paper tickets on buses. Use a registered contactless card and download a PDF statement, assuming TfL is still not totally broken.

"While you are waiting for the replacement card to arrive, you will need to pay for your travel. You can't get free or discounted travel, or a refund of fares paid, while waiting for your new card."

That's for lost/stolen/damaged photocards.

Here's the link for faulty photocards (can see OP has already applied for replacement), where it says: We may refund any fares you have to pay while waiting for your new card.

It's curious that there's a distinction between faulty and damaged.

I think the idea is that you can't make use of the facility through your own 'fault', they won't reimburse you. If it's their fault, they will. Seems fair enough to me, perhaps stolen cards should result in at least partial reimbursement though.

Thanks to all for the replies. I've had the card for about five years so the fact that it's stopped working is hardly my 'fault' so that seems a bit harsh. It seems to have developed a crack which is presumably why it has stopped working.

That probably counts as damaged, unfortunately.
