I have a ticket from London st panc to Leeds, but plans changed to York so I bought an onward ticket from York to Leeds (for today)

I have heard there is disruption between Leeds and York and am wondering if going from Sheffield to York via Doncaster (and never actually being in Leeds) is allowed. Have tried looking at the permitted routes but got confused. If not what's the cheapest fare to make this possible. Thanks in advance

If you have two tickets, then you need to travel via the interchange point.
The only exception would be if your route to Leeds was valid via York, and you broke your journey at York. Saint Pancras to Leeds at map SY at https://rgpp.iblocks.co.uk/maps doesn’t allow this.
Your ticket is valid as far as Doncaster, though (assuming “any permitted”, not an advance). You need a Doncaster-York ticket on top.

If you have a split in Leeds, you need to be on one or more train stopping in Leeds

This is confusing.
Do you mean Leeds to York?
Leeds to York is not valid via Doncaster. If it were, your combination would be valid, assuming not advance tickets as above.

CrossCountry’s ticket acceptance is allowing travel on their own services the two before and two after any cancelled service, and on Northern services between Leeds and York. This is due to emergency services dealing with an incident at Church Fenton.

Some XC services are being diverted via Doncaster - your ticket would be accepted on these.

If the London to Leeds ticket is route Any Permitted and on a ticket that allows break of journey (so not an Advance), maps KS+AY allow travel via Doncaster and York. So you can take that route and finish short at York. No other ticket required.

If you hold a London Terminals to Leeds SSS, you are permitted to travel via York, and finish short there.

(Note: technically it's only valid via York if you also travel via Peterborough, however in practice, there isn't going to be any problem travelling via Leicester/Derby/York; given the engineering works, discretion would apply, but I don't think you would experience any problems under normal circumstances)
