On Wednesday I had a Standard class Advance ticket purchased from EMT, Leicester to Portsmouth Stations, with travel on the 1000hrs from Leics to St Pancras and the 1202 Southern trains service from Victoria to Portsmouth Harbour.

The EMT service was on time but I had problems with the 1202.

It is due to split at Horsham with the front section going to Portsmouth and the rear section to Bognor, however there was no driver at Horsham for the split so the train carried on to Barnham.
There was no additional driver at Barnham and Portsmouth passengers were told to alight as the whole train would be going to Bognor, I had to wait about 15 minutes for a stopping train to Portsmouth and Southsea with another change there making my arrival 60 minutes late.
Am I entitled to delay repay if so who from? I have 3 ticket portions, 1/ STD Advance Leics to Portsmouth Stns 2/ Seat Res Leics to St Pancras 3/Seat res on the 1202 Victoria to Portsmouth Harbour.
TIA

Your claim is with Southern, however I am really surprised you took that route in the first place.

It is the longest, most roundabout route you could take from London to Portsmouth.

There are only two questions that need to be answered to determine eligibility for Delay Repay / Passenger Charter compensation and which company the claim should go to - were you delayed for over 30 minutes on a valid itinerary, and whose train were you on when the initial delay occurred?

From what you've posted you experienced more than 30 minutes delay on a valid itinerary, and the initial delay occurred while you were on a Southern operated train. So yes, you should submit a claim to Southern.

Corrected. Claim to Southern. You can do that online. You have 1 ticket with 2 reservation coopens. Photograph the lot of them and attach them to the claim. Southern operate delay repay so you only need to have been delayed 30 minutes. As you were delayed 60 minutes while traveling on a single ticket (as advances are), you are entitled to compensation of 100% of the value of the ticket.

That route came up for a 1000 departure from leicester, I had never been on the full route before so I was quite happy to have the circular journey, would I do it again? probably not. :)

In future, Go to Waterloo instead of Victoria and get a train via Guildford. It's over an hour quicker when there are no delays!

Hey at least on this occasion your extended journey with a delay means you get a free ride. I am not sure if Southern have made arrangements to pay customers directly with cash yet. But if not, you can opt you have your compensation put as a credit onto you online account with Southern or, if you get a Rail Travel Voucher, take it to a Southern ticket office to exchange directly for cash.

Not if you have a counted place reservation for the Southern service! So when booking it might be an idea to force the booking engine to go via Woking or another station called at by the service :).

Also: For the last few days the Portsmouth Direct line has been badly disrupted after some signalling equipment caught fire. All the through trains are diverted via Eastleigh.

Thanks guys, just to reiterate, I was quite happy with going out via Victoria-Portsmouth and returning to Waterloo.
Just as a matter of interest, my Leicester-Portsmouth ticket cost £24-10 would Southern pay delay repay on all of the ticket price.?

Even then the Eastleigh service is faster than the SN, and I'm well aware of the problems on the Portsmouth Direct. I live in Petersfield.

The calculation is done on the face value of the ticket, even if only part of the itinerary was on the TOC that caused the delay

An update for you all today.
In the post this morning came 3 Rail travel vouchers to the value of £24.10 the full cost of my travel from Leicester to Portsmouth via London Victoria.
Less than 3 weeks to settle in full, well done to Southern rail.

That's good tat they've given them in 3, so you can use them for smaller (lower costing) journeys... Or, next time (within the next 12 months) you are passing a Southern ticket office you can exchange the vouchers for cash - there should be a note on the voucher about this. Well done!

Southern ime do not send out RTVs in excess of £10 in value for each voucher, under general circumstances for relatively small sums. Compensation of amounts over £10 are split into multiples of £10 vouchers and one for the remainder.

I cannot say what happens when the value exceeds £50, as that is the maximum I have got from them in one claim.

As an aside, I do find it odd, esp on the Southampton to Victoria runs, when I see folks with 'any permitted' tickets. The other day when I was working one I gave my normal pre-departure announcement that includes, 'just a reminder that journey time to Gatwick is 2 hours and Victoria is 2 and 3/4 hours.....'
3 people got off and came over showing me their 'any permitted' tickets. I guided them over towards platform 1 and the SWT train to Waterloo.
However, I was talking to a friend whose only knowledge of trains is as a passenger, and she said, well some folks perhaps might be wanting Victoria and don't want to change, and not everyone is in a big hurry.
I do wonder though, when folks buy the cheaper ticket 'via Barnham' if they know what they are buying into, and how many times does the conductor on the direct SWT trains come across these tickets?. Do they get the, 'well no body told me' or the 'the person on the platform said i could take this train'. (prob not showing a ticket to that person and just asking about the next train to london).
Anyway, just random thoughts you think after checking tickets between Southampton and Swanwick.

I have heard when at Havant the SWT guard making announcements that "tickets marked Southern only or "Via Barnham" are not valid on this service" so I would imagine a few passengers will try and blag using the direct SWT rather than the Southern.

Out of interest, do screens at southampton refer to these as London Victoria or as somewhere short thereof ie East Croydon?
