I was driving southbound on the A1 tonight and passed what looked like an EMU car on the back of a low loader at Brampton Hut at 17.30hrs. It was in a purple livery and was a end driving car with a unit number which looked like 34x x09. (Had to keep my eye's on the road).

Can anyone identify what it was and where it was travelling from/to.

Many Thanks.

It sounds like a 345 but can’t help beyond that, sorry!

One would assume a movement from Worksop sidings.

If it was 34x x09 it could only be 345 009, surely?

Has 345 009 been back to Worksop recently at all?

It will be one of the two cars from 345009 being moved to Old Oak Common to make the set up to 9-car.

Driving car though apparently?
I thought it was a driving car because it had a 6 digit number and because it started 34x.

But I can't remember seeing an actual driving cab as I was trying not to cause an RTC!

But thanx for all the help so far.

What is/would the car numbers be for the 2 extra coaches ? (as I thought the last 3 digits could of been 609, but discounted this myself)

Yes, 340609 was the carriage number reported with 340409 moving earlier in the week.

They fit at positions 4 and 6 to make a 7 coach train into a 9 coach train. In the same way, a 700/0 is missing coaches 4, 5, 8 and 9 relative to a 700/1 and a 710/2 is missing coach 4 relative to a 710/3.

Strangely, 80x units are not numbered with missing coaches in this manner.

Thank you both.
I didn't realise coach numbers had gone from 5 to 6 digit as gave up "spotting" years ago, although obviously I'm still curious, hence the question.
