Can a simpler station be built for HS2 at Euston?

That Arch was pig-ugly and in the way. I just don't get why people keep harking back to the thing. Leave it in the canal.
Would a new arch of different design perhaps keep everyone happy?

Incidentally, a straightish tunnel from Old Oak Common to Waterloo/Waterloo East would be shorter than the (curved) tunnel from Old Oak Common to Euston, and would be under parkland for about 60% of the way, making work sites easy and subsidence an irrelevance. Waterloo and Waterloo East have direct trains to nearly everywhere in Central London and England south of the Thames: Euston has trains to, er, Birmingham.

Actually, it's just over 400 metres from the centre of Waterloo East to the junction of Southwark Street and Blackfriars Road, so if you had the station there, you could have a travelator connection to the southern end of Blackfriars too.

They seem to get away with it at the eastern end of Hyde Park numerous times a year (but I agree they would have more battle if the work was for HS2).
