Campsites near train stations

Does anyone know any Campsites conveniently located for train stations?

Thinking a lightweight weekend away with the girlfriend and dog without having to drive.

A good local pub is an absolute essential for me.

I have stayed in Horton in Ribblesdale before but looking for other suggestions. Yorshire is probably best but the South East could be doable.

The Fieldhead Site is a good site a few minutes walk from Edale - and the pub is The Rambler Inn which is the start or finish of The Pennine Way. Supplies in the village or a ramble to Castleton, though you could eat at the pub quite happily I found!

Down south there is Fairfields Farm at Pevensey and Westham - again a few minutes walk and it sells its own produce. There are two or three pubs in the village (Pevensey and Westham sort of merge into each other) though it's been a while since I used them. Eastbourne two stops away for supplies if the village/farm shops are closed.

I'll have to try and convince the girldfriend that a walk up Kinder Scout will be fun.

In the same area as Edale, Hope or Bamford are worth a look. Took one of my lads to the campsite right next to railway line and station at Bamford a couple of years ago - nice little site and we enjoyed watching the trains from the site (although not the night time freight trains!).

If you're a member of the Scouting Association, their private campsite at Blackwell Court is right next to the Lickey Incline just below the summit... So about an hour's hike from Bromsgrove railway station.

Anywhere from Grindleford to Chinley there are campsites near the stations and good walking (and pubs) on your doorstep!

Edale and Castleton have youth hostels with more in the way of facilities.

There's one of the New Forest sites right by Ashurst New Forest station with a pub next door. Don't think that one allows dogs though...

There's a Camping and Caravanning Club site next door to Delamere station near Chester.

For something a little different, Lee Valley Campsite is located just beyond the London boundary in Essex, and at this time of the year actually has a frequent (by country standards) London bus terminating within its grounds, whilst a non-London bus runs from just outside to Chingford station in 10–15 minutes. The nearest pub is about a mile away. It's a good spot for visiting London, rambling across Epping Forest, or exploring the Lee Valley.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, somewhere in Derbyshire looks likely.

Just need to wait for a bit of nice weather and our jobs to give us a free weekend together.

We are both members of the Scouts (it's how we met), but would rather avoid any scout type campsites for our holidays. But a few teenage backpackers are fine. (I quite enjoy watching to see what kind of heavy junk they are taking with them on the hikes).

I camp at Gilwell park several times a year, which is just a few hundred yards from the Lee Valley site. I usually walk their from Chingford station.

Some ago I and the family camped on a site in the Hope Vally. One morning the camp was buzzing with talk of a train crash, though no one seemed to have any
real details, just that there'd been a lot of noise.

Smiling quietly to myself I walked up to the edge of the site and looked down onto the line. Sure enough, a little way away in a siding was parked a tamper.

Thanks all for the advice, finally got away this weekend.

We went to Edale and stayed at the Waterside Farm campsite, only £9 per night but it is a basic site. About half a mile walk down the road from the station. The Fieldhead site was fully booked.

Lots of drinking in the Rambler Inn and had a couple of meals there. Also had breakfast at the Penny Pot Cafe this morning.

The dog and the girlfriend loved it and can't wait to go again.

Was rather surprised how busy the railway line is but it never bothered us, the dog likes watching them go past.
