Cambridge to York .. why would you go via Newcastle ?

My wife and I intend booking a trip shortly, from Cambridge to York so I have been looking at options on the Forum's ticket site.

One option, via Stevenage, would work out at £39.10 which isn't too bad at all.

Another option is also via Stevenage, but then a train up to Newcastle before heading back down to York ... and all this 'excitement' for £81.80

Who would pick this I wonder

Because you want to sample Lumo and you haven't checked "don't show overtaken trains"? :)
