That tracks with the OHNS installation dates I've seen on railwaycodes.org for Litlington, Biggleswade, Langley Jnc and Hertford North. The feeding distances in this situation are all within the textbook 12-18 mile range:
  • Milton – Litlington = 18m25c (Milton FS up feed),
  • Hitchin – Litlington/Biggleswade = 18m44c (Hitchin FS),
  • Hitchin – Hertford North/Langley Jnc = 14m69c (Langley FS)
I think once Milton was put in place in (probably) 1990, it seems likely it supplied the whole branch giving Milton (up) a distance of 27m 70c, a long way but better than the other options:
  • Little Barford (up) – Shepreth via Hitchin = 39m 10c
  • Ugley – Hitchin = 39m 67c
  • Welwyn (dn) – Shepreth = 34m 09c
Don't know about the original arrangement but when I worked on the SCADA Project (Hornsey & Doncaster ECR's to York) back in 2001, Milton FS fed the Cambridge lines down to the Mid Point at Litlington and Hitchin FS (via Corey's Mill Switching Station as was) fed from the ECML up to Litlington.
Thanks for the date for York ECR btw, no info about that online either. Do you know if the ECR is still in the IECC building these days? Or did it move into the ROC with the signallers?
