Afternoon,
been watching the line just south of Cambridge station and have seen a recent increase in freight and on two consecutive days recently a Network Rail train. I know there are plans for platforms 7/8 to included at Cambridge for southbound services, is this the beginning of this? Or could it simply be my new timetable means english lessons now match the freight that has always been there?
Cheers.

There are daily aggregate and other freight movements coming down from the Midlands via Cambridge. Some of it is regular, like the morning FLHH aggregates train to Harlow Mill and the DBS Plasmor concrete block train that goes to the Olympic Park in Stratford, both of which return empty later. There are also flows that happen less frequently and some that are one-off's.

I don't believe any work has yet started on Cambridge P7/8, and I'm not sure it would require trainload quantities of materials.
