People have told me that they have had problems sometimes getting back home from the cambrian cost because for some strange reason the 20.00 from Pwllheli and the 22.12 from barmouth both do not connect into shrewsbury, does anyone know why they they dont.

Im sure it would be easier if they did because of people using this service for a day out or using the round robin tickets.

I don't understand what you mean. They terminate at Macynthleth because that is where it has been decided they terminate. There is a depot there so presumably that is where it is best to terminate them.

For a start the 22.12 is a Friday only return to its dept, the 20.00 does
in fact connect with a service to Aber(45 min wait), so those on hol in that area have some kind of service. As far as getting to Shrewsbury, sorry the
lights go out in the early evening from Machynlleth to England since the TPO
stopped running a few years ago.

this may interest you from rail user express

In the April newsletter from the Shrewsbury-
Aberystwyth Rail Passengers’ Association
(SARPA), the Chairman comments on the news
that Arriva Trains Wales has at last produced
near-acceptable performance on the line, pointing
out that the ATW franchise is in its 6th year and
there are still systematic weaknesses that
passengers have to contend with on a daily basis.
From the outset, there was no plan for growth in
passenger numbers (35% since the start of the
franchise) with the result that there is now chronic
overcrowding on some trains. Elsewhere we read
that no provision has been made for any sort of
portable ERTMS unit (the signalling equipment
being trialled on the line) thereby preventing
charter, steam and freight traffic from ever using
the route.

Couple of comments on the above.

1.Performance, all trains run slower with longer pit stops on the way.

2.No forecast of growth from a Toc with a 15 year franchise,in the real world
there has to be growth.

They have a point about the kettles and charters, but you will never see freight up the Cambrian.

They must be doing something with the amount of engineers and ballast traffic knocking about up there. The loop will be extended up to Vron, no idea when it will be complete as the whole project seems to be stalling.

they probably aint rushed on this job because they probably have till the next timetable change to open the extension if the aberystwyth to london service starts, which i cant see happening tbh.

Betting people should seriously invest a few quid on the Aber-Marylebone service starting.....
