Here's one for the Southern,
A few years back, there was a story going round that Camberwell Station was being looked at for reopening and Loughborough Jct for closure instead.
Certainly this would make some degree of sense; Camberwell would have four platforms, serving not just the route to Herne Hill but also the route to Denmark Hill (Lough' Jn only serves the Herne Hill route, and before anyone says it, the Cambria Road curve platform remains would probably break all manner of rules if any attempt to reopen them was tried - let alone not being long enough).
Camberwell still has the station buildings at street level, and remains of the station buildings inbetween the Up Fast and Down slow lines, it is also closer to Camberwell New Road.
Another advantage would be that the closure of Loughborough Jct as a result of re-opening Camberwell would allow the removal of the platforms there and speeding up of trains passing through.
http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/c/camberwell_new_road/index.shtmlhas a history of the station, the street level building follows the design at Elephant & Castle.
Obviously there is a need for a station in the area, and Camberwell, as I have said above would be able to serve twice the routes that Loughborough Jct does.
Now what interests me is if NR did decide to close Loughborough Junction, how much time could TOCs gain by this action?
Also, how much would it affect users of Loughborough Junction if it closed and Camberwell reopened?
