You can select a berth for any train up to the 1st June. The functionality to do this for any train from 2nd June will appear shortly.

Why would it have Lower on it as I have booked a Club solo room, are there 2 beds in the room but only one of them is to be used?

As with the Mk3s, except for the Caledonian Double and PRM rooms, the berths all have two bunks I believe, with the top one able to be folded away (as is the case now) depending on how the room is configured and what it’s being sold as.

If you’re in a Club Solo and the top bunk is folded away, you’d by definition be on “L”.

If both bunks are in position (as they were in my Classic Solo the other night) whilst the booking technically shows L or U the host doesn’t come in to check you’re in the right bunk

That’s the quoted date and “early June” for the Highlander.

With only 48/75 of coaches in the UK so far, “early June” seems a long way off...

It is allocated 5M11 as it will be on the rear of the consist. It is booked and will run 1M11.

In the more general sense, I wish people would just use “southbound Highland”, “Fort William to Edinburgh”, “northbound Lowland” rather than headcodes, which I don’t learn off and don’t want to look up every time.

More accurately it should be Up Highlander (for the southbound) and Down Lowlander (for the northbound)… which tends to confuse people even more.

It is correct that, on the new trains, all the club and classic rooms have two beds. Both club and classic can be sold as either twin or solo - it depends on what the customer books, not how they are set up before they are booked. Once they are booked then the new trains can be correctly configured if they are booked as solo, simply by folding the bed up.

To be clear, there will no longer be rooms that must be permanently set up as solo or twin. They can be flexed on the night as customer bookings for that night dictate.

Unless it's changed again I believe they relented on that in favour of Club being 1st class and things working as they do now.

Westerton. Still surprised they didn’t introduce an Airdrie stop when it was rerouted, even if it had to be replaced with a taxi on the odd occasions the train goes via the E&G

Westerton. Still surprised they didn’t introduce an Airdrie stop when it was rerouted, even if it had to be replaced with a taxi on the odd occasions the train goes via the E&G

The Westerton stop was replaced by the Queen Street Low Level stop.

Westerton was mainly to accomodate Glasgow passengers with a dedicated shuttle from QS High Level for the morning service and a connection to a late local service for the evening sleeper.

I don't see how Airdrie could be considered of any use to anyone who would have used Westerton.

While there might be a reasonable population there, how many people seriously want to get off a sleeper train at 0510 or board at 0030 in the morning? I appreciate some do at the stations in Fife but it isn't a great night's sleep - better to turn up in Motherwell or Glasgow at 0720 and travel to the Airdrie area for 0800. They even have the option of travelling back from Dalmuir if they have to be earlier.

Plenty do, yes, it gives you a full day in the hills and a meal out before heading home.
