Random sleeper question: if you're booked from say Aberdeen to Crewe, will you get woken up? Or is it entirely down to you to make sure you're up?

Asking theoretically and definitely not because I'm speeding through the early morning countryside near Tamworth feeling like an idiot. Definitely not that.

You will get woken up at a time of your choosing. Usually they offer you a wake up call of either an hour, forty-five minutes, or half an hour, until arrival.

Should have said that I'm in the seats, not in the cabins, if that makes a difference.

They're putting me on a Virgin back to Crewe once we get to Euston, so that's nice of them.

No, they don't wake you up in the seats. When I went to Dundee, it was up to me to be up-and was sheer luck that I was!

Right, should have asked beforehand I guess. I didn't set an alarm because I didn't want to wake up the rest of the carriage!

Next time I'll set a silent alarm, maybe one that involves something sharp stabbing me in the foot.

Depends if you wear ear plugs or not... You could use a set of ear bud headphones and connect then to your phone and set the alarm on that.

BTW there are fresh pics of the damage to the WHL on the ScotRail Twitter. The latest target is that the line will reopen in time for services on Tuesday.

Well, sleeper is still the only way to travel

Shame though, given the cost, that late boarding isn't even acknowledged and that my breakfast never turned up!

Cabin seemed to have less rattles than before but there's still something annoying coming from within the door lock, and the lights flashed on when they joined the trains.

It looks like there's no Highland Sleeper full service until the 12th. Although it says the line is closed until midnight on the 12th, meaning as it stands the Monday Sleeper to Fort William hasn't yet been ruled out, as it wouldn't be anywhere near by midnight.

Until then, it looks like trains to either Edinburgh, Dundee or Kingussie (depending on the day) and a replacement bus from there.

However, the latest I've seen is that some of the roads are flooded and replacement buses may struggle.

Anyone got a hovercraft?

I presume a Monday evening North bound highlander service to Fort William will depend upon where the rolling stock is stabled and maintained, does anyone know where that portion is stabled currently. I can't see CS wanting to move the stock towards Euston just yet, not based upon a best guess re-opening time frame.

An extra complication is that when running early the sleeper will arrive and depart Crewe early (it's a set down only stop). Add a bit of flex to any alarm.
I remember (in the berths) being denied 30 minutes sleep in exchange for an very cold extra half hour at Crewe waiting for my connection.

Scot-rail forum says 8 coaches and two 73's sighted in Aberdeen this afternoon.
This fits with what I saw when I left Aberdeen tonight as the sleeper empty stock movement from the carriage sidings to the platform was starting and there were a lot more coaches on it than usual.

Unfortunately there’s quite a bit of flooding, as ScotRail have just tweeted that we’ve had 52mm of rainfall over the past 36 hours. Network Rail Scot have just tweeted these photos of Slochd / Carrbridge.

To add to the issues, there was also reported flooding on the line between Keith and Huntly earlier, resulting in my train being cancelled (the line is closed east of there to Dyce as well, so no diversionary route for the Caley Sleeper either). So a bus to Aberdeen it is for me.

4 weeks before I am due to be in the Highlands. Really hope the flood damage is not severe enough to cause long term closure of the Highland Main Line

It’s still at Carrbridge at the time of this post. Once the line reopens it will run empties to Inverness.

Inverness to queen street is due to leave just now. Sleeper is here and we are due to travel. However heavens have just opened.

Train has jùst left 4 QS and i will track it and see what progress it makes.

Heard nothing from CS yet but what stock will they have at Aviemore as its here. Or will it travel empty.
