Trying to book two people on this in May, London to Aberdeen. Out on the 28th and returning on the 3rd June. Classic room, but one person per room. One of us doesn't have a railcard and one has a senior railcard.

If you book both tickets together it doesn't show you what the two fares are, which I don't like, but booking them individually shows that one is charged at £415 return, which is pretty damn steep and the railcard fare is £254.10 - which seems ok. But that is way more than a 30% discount on the standard fare - what is going on?

Did you add the first ticket to the basket, then add the second? If so they could be different tiers?

I ended up doing two separate bookings and completing neither, I guess its still possible they are in different fare buckets, though I was offered the same berth each time.

I tried just now. For the outward journey there is a ticket at £215.00. For the return journey there is a ticket at £170.00. Total £385.00.

34% off £385.00 is £254.10, so the senior railcard fare is correct.

So it looks like Yorkie is right.

It may be the case that there is only one solo room left at £170.00, so when you query for two people you get a higher price. Both people have to be in the same fare bucket. If that is the case you should make two separate bookings to minimise the price.
