Caledonian Sleeper running late

The Inverness portion of the Caley was 24 minutes late out of Dalwhinnie, has crawled for the last 15 minutes and is now stopped in the middle of nowhere. Anyone have any ideas or inkling what's going on?

Signalling problems between Dalwhinnie and Blair Atholl, according to ScotRail. Some services were delayed by 35 mins earlier.

Already over sixty minutes late leaving Edinburgh, the sleeper is now motionless on Beattock, ticking over gently, and has been for the last hour. God knows what's going on - failed (hopefully not crashed or derailed) train ahead, presumably.

Not due in Dalwhinnie until 09:16, ETA Inverness now 10:47am!

ETA to Inverness 1025 - for it to affect both southbound and northbound services but for neither train to be taken out of service I imagine it is another service that hit the person...

The single track sections around Dalwhinnie would form a bottleneck for night freight and the sleepers hence the long waits north and south of here... No idea why it was put into Beattock loop at 0337 though! Is there something faster than the sleeper prowling about the WCML at that time of night??

My guess is the passenger strike happened somewhere in the highlands - there's also about an hour of padding at Carstairs for the lowland sleeper, much longer than you need to do a split.

The down Fort Bill and Aberdeens have similar delays, so the problem must have bee south of EDB.

There was a fatality at Lockerbie at 01:10, involving a class 325 unit working 1S55, 23:30 Warrington Royal Mail Terminal to Shieldmuirs Royal Mail Terminal, causing severe disruption throughout the night.

The Sleeper lost 33 minutes between Euston and Rugby after the 20:23 Euston - Wolverhampton struck a person at Milton Keynes Ctl platform 6. The sleeper then lost a further 131 minutes between Gretna Jn and Beattock before arriving in Inverness 110 minutes late at 10:30.

A rather unfortunate day for many.

Thanks for the info. The up lowland would have got through before the fatality and presumably the line reopened by the time the down got to Lockerbie.

Even due to a fatality? I thought that would be exempt as it wasn't a direct failure on the railway's part?

I was on the lowland last night to Edinburgh. I Arrived at Euston around 2130 and the Highland was still sitting at platform 15, not sure what time it eventually left. Announcements were being made that due to a body under a train at Milton Keynes there were delays, but things were getting back to normal. Lowland departed on time, arrived in Edinburgh more or less on time. Was very slow going up Beattock though.

Edit: I did notice a stationary Mail train around Lockerbie though.

The 26th May 2011 Euston to Inverness/Fort William Caledonian Sleeper hauled by 90019 was again delayed by an incident in the Lockerbie area. Travelling on this train we awoke to find the train sitting in Beattock Loop, Edinburgh was eventually reached about 4 hours late and arrival at Inverness was similarly late - any further details as to the cause?
