Hi.

It appears that I can get a VTEC Weekday First advance from Aberdeen to London. For my twin brother and I (plus my dad or older brother who would accompany us) it is £114. For a 7hr journey I think that’s ace.

I can get there by easyJet or seated sleeper. Both are about £50. Seated sleeper uses first class seats so that appeals to me, but I’ve heard some negative reviews. Can I get your opinions please?

I've never had any problems riding in the seats. Once I get off to sleep thats normally me for the night. Dependant upon the time of year I have found it to be a bit too hot leaving Euston but once you get going it cools off a bit.

Not everyone finds it easy sleeping in the seats. I don't have a problem with it normally though, especially after a couple of drinks (I realise you are too young for that though!). I did have a bit of an annoying situation on the Night Riviera once when travelling from Plymouth to London and there was a couple on board and the bloke was rather drunk and he was talking loudly. Fortunately they alighted at Taunton.

The only negative I can immediately think of is that seated sleeper does not give you access to the lounge car.

If it was me & time allowed I would get the sleeper to Inverness then onward to Aberdeen via Nairn to get a bit of variety of scenery. The sleeper if on time allows connection to the 0900 arriving Aberdeen 11:25

The only issue with the Aberdeen portion is the noise made by the Fort William portion passengers getting evicted at Edinburgh.

It be 2+1 seating mostly in airline style with a couple bays.

What's the lighting like in the seated area? I'm hoping for dim lighting so sleep will easily be found.

Cheers :)

Thanks for your help. I don’t sleep easily at all on trains. I’ve never managed to fall asleep on one so maybe I’ll just have to pull an all nighter! :)

Like all CS stock at the moment the seated coach interiors are very worn so the environment isn't great. I've never sat in there but I did visit one of the toilets once, I never knew that you could use leatherette on the inside of a toilet pan...

Also remember that it's an early 1970s vintage mk2 so not especially quiet for sleeping in, not least when those old time clasp brakes start rasping away below you.

You should do it even if it's just for the experience, but don't build up your hopes. If you're lucky the mk2 will have one of its all too frequent power failures and you'll get moved to a berth.
