Oh, and remember the train changes direction at edinburgh. So if you want to be facing forwards in the morning, get a seat that's facing backwards as you leave euston.

That can't be avoided no matter whether you're leaving from London or any Scottish destination. Also if the seated car is wrong turned then it can cause confusion as seats that are meant to be facing are not.

4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A or 9A, they are all singles.

1A faces 2BC

2A faces 3A

2BC, 3BC, 4BC, 5BC, 6BC, 7BC, 8BC, and 9BC are all doubles

10BC are doubles but face 11BC.

It's all visible on the seating plan you are shown at booking, if you opt to choose your seat.

Must admit I really don't understand why they have numbered "airline style" rather than sticking to railway convention of individually numbered seats.

London to Glasgow doesn't get turned! But yeah, I think that's the only one.

Id go for the single . Suppose its kinda of odd being next to someone sleeping on the double . Though i did find it cosy once when i had a double to myself . Seen an argument with a guy with his legs claiming the bay and guy wanting the seat , awkward sitting across too

I think it's *something* to do with ensuring the layout is equivalent to the new stock, or something like that. But again, I don't see why they are using that numbering scheme that isn't used anywhere else on the railway and will no doubt just serve to confuse.

Thankfully it looks like the new stock all bar one of the bays have been removed.

Travelling from Crianlarich in January, just booked the Lowland Sleeper (with a change) instead of the Highland as it's showing the new coaching stock rather than the Mk2/3's on the Fort William portion. Looking forward to trying these out!

This booking is on 30/1/19. It was offering me club class, with on board shower etc.

Can someone confirm that the Lowlander does have a lounge car, and are there any lounge arrangements at Glasgow QS? It only mentions a lounge at Central on the website.

No lounge at Qst, never has been. Lowlander does have a lounge car, new sets will be 1st class only or whatever they are calling it.

Why would you need a lounge at QS? Presumably you're travelling to QS on the evening passenger train and will then make your way from QS to Central?

I’m now out and about so haven’t got the exact details, but the itinery based on the current timetable suggested something like a 4 hour wait in Glasgow. However there seems to be issues with the current service and the timetables could change by the time I travel anyway. The only concrete part of my plan is my hotel in Fort William and the sleeper so I don’t need to worry about the rest just yet.

I think that Northbound that the lowlander and then the West highland line local train or even the Citylink Bus (because of the scenery across Rannoch moor and Glencoe) can be a good move but Southbound I'd go for the West Highlander every time because of the unique atmosphere in the Fort William Lounge Car, this can be particularly so in Winter. That said after my recent employment in Garelochead I've come to appreciate Glasgow as a city and for a pint a lot more, I just find the lowlander sleeper a bit soulless to be honest.
Definitely worth roughing it in the old stock on the West highlander imho.

Totally agree about taking a day train across from Glasgow. Sure the 156s aren't luxury but great views guaranteed through both sides. Its ok if you can get into the lounge car in the sleeper but if not depends on which side your cabin is.

I'm not particularly sociable lol so the atmosphere of the train is less important for me.
