I used the Night Riviera on Tuesday for the first time since the coaches were refurbished and was very impressed. Made me wonder whether the same could have been done for the Scottish sleepers rather than new trains. Although they must still have a limited life and will have done more miles but I get the feeling that the plan for Scotland is to take the sleepers upmarket. And as the two governments are paying for the trains the railways weren’t going to refuse them.

As an aside, at Penzance I noticed that the empty stock was to be drawn out the station by an HST power car. I’d never seen that before. In the past I’ve seen it propelled very slowly by the loco that pulled the train from Paddington.

CS use Mk2 seats/longue cars, and the Highland Sleeper wouldn't fit into Euston with them replaced by Mk3s; the Night Riviera had its Mk2s replaced a few years ago by Mk3s.

I can't remember if I've read anywhere but are the new sleeper trains also this long. If the train overhangs other stations it's not uncommon for the end to stick out then here and there. It's a shame it doesn't justify making 2 trains in terms of numbers.

The new mk5s will have door de-select so shorter platforms will no longer be an issue.

Yeah, they did; from the ITT:

Whilst the current rolling stock is approaching the end of its expected service life, refurbishment may be a viable option to extend the service life and upgrade the passenger accommodation.

Don't they have the announcement that states

"Please Ensure that there is a platform available before stepping from the train" as per vline practice on stations with short platforms.

If you want to get on or off at such short platform stations you have to walk through to another carriage to exit or enter the train.

Correct - there were three bidders (each a separate operator + traction provider partnership). Only Serco (with GBRf as traction provider) proposed brand new stock.

Silly question, but doing the highlander on Friday (good to report the seats for Inverness was pretty much full, I counted only a couple empty seats) I noticed there are "Do not lean out the window" stickers by the door (see attached), are they new or have I just not noticed them before?

New by the looks of it. Out of interest is it a Serco one or one of the hired in coaches.

I suspect this may be their response to a substandard clearance issue in Winchburgh tunnel which came to light as part of EGIP and which operators of droplight stock through the tunnel (i.e. CS and VTEC/LNER) were required to address.

Friday 22 June, the 23:40 Glasgow Central - London Euston was hauled by 92010. Unsure what brought in the stock from Pomade though, as I could not see the loco when I was arriving into Platform 1 on the 19:10 ex Manchester Airport.

Euston is shut for the three weekends, 18-19, 25-27 August and 1-2 September. Unless they’ve changed it and not told others it all lines throughout all of them (0140 Sat to 0400 Mon generally).

67016 is currently working the diesel-hauled legs of 1M16/1S25.

92023 from Edinburgh would be my guess for tomorrow night, but won't know for sure until we see what works tonights Northbounds.
