Assuming it's out/back/out/back/out/back during the week (S/M/T/W/T/F nights) then the majority of the staff will be away from home today.
A London crew worked 1S25 up (well Down direction, but up) last night/this morning. I took a photo of a more impressive vestibule snow drift on S25 this morning but I never thought to send it to the BBC...

That photo reminds me of a question that sometimes pops into my mind but I then forget to ask - do the vestibules on coaches and MUs actually join, or are they just squashed together by spring tension?
The Highland Chieftain HST yesterday looked very similar between the coaches. The snow we have been having is very light blowy stuff and very different to the huge dumps we had in the Highlands before Christmas. Perhaps that gets throught he gaps easier. The 170s and 158s seem to be sucking it up int heir wake completely covering the rear of the units as the guard showed us on the Aberdeen - Inverness run yesterday.

Good chance they wont run until Sunday, Conditions in London to be "challenging" tomorrow evening with very heavy snow forecast. No trains at present North of Newcastle or Carlisle.

I presume it's unknown when the line between Newcastle and Edinburgh will reopen? I'm hoping that it'll be sorted by tomorrow but am guessing that this isn't likely?

Edit: Apologies for the off topic post. This message was meant to go in the snow disruption thread

Cheers for the info.

Can anyone recall all Sleeper services being cancelled three nights running??

I'm old enough to remember similar extreme days of bad winter weather ; some earlier in the year. So I presume sleeper services were cancelled.
In those days ( showing my age ! ) sleepers also ran between London and Manchester ; I used it a few times. Also between Glasgow/Edinburgh and Inverness. (I think they combined/detached the sleepers at Perth ?) So unsure if all were cancelled at the same time.

Also , I think the overnight Paddington/ Penzance sleepers were cancelled last night (Thurs/Friday)

Can anyone tell me if the coach letters have changed since the 25th Feb change of designation?

Booked from Aberdeen to Euston next month in the accessible berth and been allocated B 1&2 but when I normally travel from/to Inverness I'm in B 1&2, can anyone she'd any light on this? Before I contact and already busy customer services!

Looks like they have changed, Caleb, as coach J is on INV EUS tonight.

Coach letters have definitely changed - J is now an Inverness section vehicle and, yes, J used to be the accessible First Class coach closest to the Inverness lounge in the days of First and the first year or so of Serco. It changed to B within the same configuration around 18 months ago. I'm not so sure about the Aberdeen section.

Also bear in mind that cabins are numbered rather than berths now, so each coach is 1-12 rather than 1-24. Not relevant to the accessible berth, but if you're on the lookout for a location amidships rather than over the wheels then you need to seek out 5 or 6 now rather than 10/11 or 12/13.

That's great thank you, I think the accessible berth is still numbered 1&2 as some customers have a companion with them.

Thanks for the replies on this, things change as they always do!

Polmadie sightings this morning:
  • 92038 outside the main shed at the Glasgow end.
  • Coaches from 1B01(?) beside the main shed.
  • Mk.5s in the Down Holding Sidings. 1 or 2 of them were not coupled to any of the others.

Inverness/Aberdeen/Fort William train arrived a couple of mins early into Euston this morning - Surprised me as thought we’d be delayed somewhere on the West Coast main line plus we were 30 late getting into Edinburgh (Aberdeen portion)

Whilst 1M16's timings on the WCML are a lot tighter than 1M11 on Sunday night there's always a 30 min "Engineering Allowance" for all the Sleeper services to allow for possible Single Line Working (SLW) between Carlisle and Carstairs if this is required for any works - it's why the services depart 30 mins earlier on a Sunday. However, the SLW rarely happens and so there's 30 mins that can usually be made up pretty easily.

You can see it in the RTT info against Cove Signal Mc862 (just north of Gretna) - in the far right column - 30 (mins) engineering allowance plus 3 (mins) pathing allowance.

As a result of this 33 min "gimme", 1M16 was already back on time (or thereabouts) by Gretna.

There were the overhead line issues around Crewe whichimpacted 1S26 and 1M11, but they were resolved by the time 1M16 arrived in the area.

Interesting reading, was fast asleep long before it left Edinburgh, woke up around 0530 fearing the worst as the train was at a stop but we were in Crewe!

1M16 Highlander arrived 135 Late at Euston this morning due to OHLE issues in the Wigan area. 1M11 was also delayed but fared a bit better and whilst being 82 Late at Warrington was able to recover to 30 Late at Euston.

1M16 (92 010 on the front) running through Hartford (105 Late at that point):

Noticed when doing a booking for a journey soon that the CS website still won't allow you to choose berth as "it may be a new train". I thought this was meant to have been rectified when the old stock got postponed?

It was, but judging by recent comments/reply on their Twitter I think the upgrade needed to the systems has been delayed...

Some system upgrades have happened and others not. Until the other day it was impossible to make or manage a Flexipass booking online - users were having to email CS to make reservations. That's been fixed now, but a cabin selector still isn't being provided.

They've changed coach layouts twice in quick succession - first it was the introduction of composites but with old style berth numbers, now it's changed to composites with 'room' (not a word that properly describes a mk3 cabin!) numbers, so I wonder if it's as simple as they've just not managed to update the plans to reflect current configurations?

Slightly separately, I'm in frequent touch with three of four Highlander regulars and none of them have reported the ghostly 'locked out' cabins in the mk3s. Does anyone know if these really exist? If they do then they aren't obvious since each coach is still numbered Rooms 1-12. I can't believe that they won't bring these into service at short notice subject to demand, why would they deny themselves the revenue six months ahead of the new trains starting service? Does anyone know what's going on with this?

Does anyone know what delayed 1M16 today in the Wigan area was ? It lost 90 mins around Wigan South Junction. I say it when it passed me on the Northampton loop around 09.00 this morning
