I'm sure that a lot of people were very upset by this last night, but God love them you've got to feel sorry for CS when they try so hard and it still falls apart on them.

Presumably some more people to be disappointed tonight if they don't move a set of coaches from Scotland to London. Pretty unfortunate given the precaution of moving the set from Inverness to Polmadie over the Christmas period and the increase in demand at this time.

Nothing in RTT yet to suggest that one of the sets at Inverness will go south to Polmadie during the day to allow one of the lowland sets to go to London.

Well the Cale sleeper is special in that it has very few services. If we're going to be fair to it then I think we'd have to look at the Island Line separately which surely is older.

Here's the lowland set going to London. As an aside, is it running in an unused passenger path between Carstairs and Wembley as I wouldn't have thought a clear path existed without needed to sit anywhere and wait?

Looks as if it was scheduled at the back of the London Midland Trent Valley express from Nuneaton south - presumably the rest is less congested

Unfortunately 53 late off Polmadie so the allocated path is a little academic. Seems to be behind the TPE departure from Glasgow Central to Preston (1M90) so perhaps it will follow that to Preston, allow the following Glasgow to Euston train (1M16) past on the four track from Preston to Euxton and see how it progresses from there.

Maybe GBRf should hire in a few ETH 47s to act as ETHELs while the 73/9s get their engine/alternator modifications. ;)

Like the Colas 47s currently acting as ETHELs while the 73s are going away?

I wonder how they've calculated the age of the Caley Sleeper fleet - Have they included the 86 & 87 primarily for the ECS, and the Class 73s original age despite being rebuilt I wonder? The MK2s date from the late 70s, but the Mk3 Sleepers date from the late 80s and arnt that far off the 92s.

Pedantry I know, but seeing as we're on the subject of age, the coaches are actually quite a bit older than that. The mk2s are early to mid 1970s and the sleepers themselves were built no later than the very early 1980s.

Interestingly I know there is a Mk3 sleeper in the scrap yard at Muir of Ord. It's got Intercity livery on it.

And in any event age has little to do with matters; these aren't things that age like cars or buses. My favourite fleet (EC) is one of the oldest. I'd humbly suggest that regardless of age, overall it's better than Northern's...

That's the earliest I've seen it. Adding it up, I get 52 ½ minutes of allowances in the schedule so arriving that early means an absolutely clear run.

I remember being on one that got into Euston around about that early. Someone on here will no doubt know the 'facts' but I seem to recall they're timed to navigate the morning rush into London via Slow Lines etc. but if they hit it right/early they get a clear run on the Fast Lines and arrive much quicker.

If you look at the timings on Realtime trains it gets earlier and earlier as the allowances don't get used. By the time they got to Bletchley they were +45. Wouldn't have minded a cab ride of that one - looks like it was nothing but greens all the way from Carstairs. :D

Not sure how Caledonian website works (or doesn't). Yesterday I tried booking sleeper from London to Inverness and return for 2 seniors in May (the week before half term.)

Each time I got near to paying it said operation could not be carried out at this time try again. Upon going through the process again the price had gone up for one leg , but it still gave the error. Tried again the other leg had gone up. Tried again and both legs had gone up to an extortionate price and it said first class and seated were full , so gave up booked a hotel for the night in Inverness and am travelling the day before and at least we can travel back on Saturday and not have to wait for Sunday Sleeper.

Today I see the tickets are back down to the original level for both legs. Too late for Caledonian, they have lost the fares altogether.
