The Class 88 ETH index will be 100 (500kW), which is plenty for a full sleeper rake (assuming 2xBUO [=8], 2xRLO [=10], 6xSLEP [=42] and 6xSLE(D) [=36]).

Which will be nowhere near enough for the new stock, which will require UIC supply for full rating. 88 of no use.

Well, here is the stock at Oban on arrival of the final of the three workings to Oban. Yes, that is an Intercity liveried seated coach in there!

Whilst I thought we had left Edinburgh RT, we were actually about 40 mins late - I was awoken to the noise of the 73's thrashing through the tunnels between Waverley and Haymarket

As you'll see, we also got put straight into the "rare" platform at Oban too, rather than the stock being shunted into there after arrival

Wow, a very interesting rake! (In this day and age anyway)

Forgive my näivety, but does it run all the way up the WHL with locos at front & rear? I presume only the front is running and the one at the rear is dead-in-train for the return? Given the run-around at Oban (and Fort William…), why would that be done?

If I get chance, I have a photo which mostly shows the Virgin and IC coaches, which I'll have a play with in Photoshop and see if I can make it look like its from a few years ago :D

The 73s are a new thing and I suspect that it's TnT for Oban for ease so that they don't have to do a load of running round (the crossover is out on one platform too) with the risks that come with it. For Fort William I doubt it will be TnT as they will have the facilities to deal with issues. Bear in mind that from Oban, the set made an 11 hour round trip to Polmadie between workings for prepping so reliability would be high on the agenda.

Whilst I was on board, while the rear loco wasn't providing traction to the best of my knowledge, it did look to be running (despite having the standalone tail lamp)

I thought that, but I will guess that:
1) At Oban, running round would require additional staff.
2) Traction is to all intents and purposes new, so some provision necessary for teething problems.

73s of course have worn IC livery, as have the SLE and SLEP coaches...

Were they having trouble with all their Mk2s hence the IC liveried lounge car, then? I thought it was just the seated cars.

The mix of liveries is nice (and very DB/SBB - the UK never really did mixing liveries in sets) but it doesn't give a fantastic sales pitch - to the random passenger it probably gives more of an impression of "here's all the random buckets of bolts we managed to cobble together today".

They are absolutely right to have hired in stock, but they really could do with getting theirs fixed and getting the vinyls out ASAP.

Top-and-tail will have made the shunt awkward, I guess?

Oh, I'm not THAT good with Photoshop :P

In answer to the first bit, on the run to Edinburgh, we had a normal Barbie liveried Lounge Car, so some Mk 2's are evidently OK

Regarding the liveries, I commented that it felt like a railtour! I did go and sit in the seated coach for a bit as another forum member joined at Dalmuir and it felt very railtour like being in a coach (Standard Class, too!) with the green seating etc. As you say, probably not a great image to portray!

The Polmadie run explains to me why the stock was turned around on the two images. :)

OK, two questions:

1. Was this weekend just gone the only planned diversion to Oban?

2. Is it just me, or does the lady on the sleeper.Scot homepage look rather spooky, even satanic lol?

Perhaps more of a reflection on Riviera and their non-existant repainting of carriage stock into a unified corporate colour scheme, whether heritage or contemporary!

crossover On the two thumbnail images which you posted yesterday at 1817 hours.

It's the same train viewed from opposite ends, no turning of stock required.

As sprinterguy has noted, the image I posted is the same train taken from the blocks and taken from the "departure end" of the platform - the pictures are taken probably 5 minutes apart. I wasn't at Oban for the departure to London last night

I'm on the seated sleeper tonight from Fort William to Glasgow Queen Street.

The lounge car is in de-branded Virgin Trains livery. The seated car is in InterCity livery but internally has Valley Lines branded emergency signage!

That sounds like the same set we had to Oban - see my photos :)

Yes, that's the one although the coaches were the other way round last night with the InterCity liveried coach nearest to the loco.

We had a class 67 last night, 67021 I think which was sat in a bay at Edinburgh when I passed through this morning.

I did comment to one of the guards about the coach being a bit dated. I'd better not mention the reply!

I was the only passenger in the seated portion last night expect for one other who travelled from Fort William to Roy Bridge!

Are Freightliner 90s duties being scaled back? 86101 failed in the Beattock area whilst working the 1M11 Glasgow Central to Euston. The train was rescued by 92038 from Mossend which took 1M11 with 86101 in tow through to London.

Well the irony isn't lost on me!

Ahem, the 86 was failed, it hadn't failed.

Booked skoda had failed night before. There have been a few errant skodas over the past couple of weeks.

I'm at n the sleeper at the moment from Euston to Perth. Think we may be delayed, we left an hour late due to a faulty compressor and the train just juddered to a halt so not sure what's going on. The staff are being lovely however! :)

Looks like you're back on your way again, 112L though! Still chance to make it up if you're able to run at a good speed.

Edinburgh portion of presumably the lowland sleeper is not running tonight instead passengers have to get onto a replacement bus to Carstairs where the train will be waiting... lovely.
