You'd think it'd be a 92 along the WCML path tomorrow then (rather than S&C). Can't see a 66 taking on Beattock single-handedly with nigh on 2,000 tonnes in tow.

i dont think they allow that do they sure trains that heavy have to be double headed

It would be interesting if they keep the 92 on the front and treat it as a drag over the S&C with a 66.

Pretty sure a 66 and 92 cannot work like that [assuming you mean the 92 leads 'dead' and the 66 stays tucked in behind but provides the power] ...otherwise they wouldn't need to have the 66 leading on the Dollands Moor-Wembley section then have the hassle of switching locos around at Wembley.

If and when they do use the S&C, I suspect it'll either be 66 hauled throughout, or the 92 would come off somewhere in the Crewe/Warrington/Preston area (e.g. Lostock Hall) and then pick up the return empties working a couple of days later.

Would be a lot of hassle if they switched at Wembley (as done already), then switched around again at (say) Warrington, then back again at Carlisle to the 92 (if going the Beattock route).

Makes more sense when the Dumfries route is open again, as the 92 can just come off and the 66 can complete the rest solo up the S&C and then on from Carlisle as it does anyway when going via Dumfries.

i dont think they allow that do they sure trains that heavy have to be double headed

I'm pretty sure the 92 is the only loco permitted to haul the china clays solo on the 'hilly' WCML sections. And even then...

yeah im sure only the 92 would be allowed to single haul it was meaning a single 66 would be a no no.

Thanks for that Tim. 92010 being on the Edinburgh portion is good news as it's required, and that's where I'm heading! I shall keep an eye on this thread (and the main sleeper one) tonight and tomorrow as I'm sure updates shall be forthcoming.

Thanks again, bud!

92014 worked 1M11 last night and 92010 stayed on the Carstairs circuit, so still looking the favourites for tonight (although could still switch - see below!)

Other options tonight would be 90045 (on 1M16 last night) switching, or 90044 / 92018, but latter two haven't worked for a while.

Ah, thanks very much TimboM! All I can do now is wait I suppose...

Appears 92023 and 92033 switched around last night. TOPS had 92023 staying on the Lowlander (and hence 033 on Highlander) but would appear 92033 switched to the Lowlander after 2+ weeks on Highlander and conversely 023 took 1S25.

So if it stays like that you'd probably get 92033 on Thurs night, but clearly can change around...!

Thanks very much Timbo, glad there isn't a betting industry as to what loco will drop on which working and when, if there were I'd be ruined!

Yes - it was 90045 - been in to 'drop off' the Highlander loco for later (which I'm guessing was 92014, but not confirmed as didn't see it).

This is most likely alexf380's loco for 1S26 later (as this loco goes back to Wembley, brings in the Highlander ECS (5S95) then is left on the blocks when 1S25 departs to run round and become the 1S26 loco). Not sure if this is good or bad news for Alex... don't think 90045 has done a huge amount of Sleeper work in recent times, so maybe a win. 92010 still 'favourite' for the Edinburgh portion, but will have to see what gets sent out from Polmadie in which direction later (I think 92033 is the other option there).

Too right! See above - been a right old shuffling around last couple of nights after a week or so of being fairly predictable. Someone probably noticed we were trying to guess which ones so now playing 'sleeper loco roulette' in the planning office ;);)

i couldnt see what worked in with it either sorry

A VSTP went in today for what looks like a Crewe Basford Hall<->Willesden Class 90 switch, which would appear to rule tatty 90044 out of tonight's proceedings. AFAIK 92018 (the only other 90/92 at Willesden currently) is still stopped at the TMD for whatever reason, which by a process of elimination suggests 92014 on 1S25, but could be wrong...! (EDIT: 95%+ sure it's 92014 now)

As expected, 90045 just taken in the Highlander ECS to Euston so barring mishaps will be the 1S26 Lowlander loco later.

EDIT: 92010 reported as allocated to the Polmadie-Edinburgh ECS (for the Lowlander Edinburgh portion). So looking good for alexf380 to get at least one 'win' tonight.

Unfortunately due to a quite sudden change in the game plan I came north by other means, so no Sleeper for me tonight. 90045 would have been a winner (042 and 047 are my only duds) so I could have had two!

Hoping your changed plans wernt due to anything unfortunat going wrong Alex? Or did you decide that London's plentyful quality pubs wernt good enough and decide to come home for a sesh with the tourists and the odd student in some less silubrious establishment at home lol.

Sorry

Finally getting a breather from working for DB! Wonder if DB have enough 92s working now, or it just needs to get back to Willesden for maintenance etc.?

Barring mishaps, it's a CS-liveried 92 you've got on 1S26 tonight.

I couldn't 100% positively ID which one, but I think it is 92023 which went into Euston with tatty 90047 and 86101 and then headed back out to Wembley with 86101 (and hence will work Highlander ECS 5S95 and Lowlander 1S26 later, with the can on Lowlander ECS 5S96).

Fairly sure 92018 is still stopped at Willesden, so the only other possibility is 92033 - although believe that was taken to Willesden this morning for an exam too.

Assuming you've made it on to 1S26 tonight, does indeed appear 92023 is the traction.

1S25 passengers are enjoying 86101, which was taken off the Lowlander ECS to replace failed 90047.

92032 took over the Lowlander ECS duties.

Agreed.

As expected it's going the WCML route, 92044 leading with 66765 for company.

There's a nearly 10 hour(!) recess in Carlisle Yard per the timings. Would appear they didn't fancy it having a go at Beattock during peak passenger times??

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/H11018/2017/07/19/advanced

Surprisingly (to me at least) 92044 was taken off at Carlisle and 66765 did the rest (including Beattock) solo last night. Didn't think a 66 was "allowed" to take that sort of weight up Beattock on its own, although it did run after the last passenger working (bar the sleeper) had gone through. Gained 5 mins on the climb (vs the WTT timings at least) so clearly not too much of a struggle.

Not too sure why the 92 wasn't kept on - maybe not feasible to take it off further along and/or driver availability?

yeah very surprising especially as 86 and 90 hauled freights have to be double hauled too

There was a 2x 86 Freightliner has it happened on its tail up the bank and 6S94 was then looped at the summit for it to pass. The 86s were running c.10 early and 6S94 about 10 late (before Beattock) so although scheduled to be a fair way behind they'd caught up with it.

yeah the freightliner would be running as a class 4 75mph max and the tanks a class 6 60 mph so thats probably why it was let in front

Also looped at the top of the climb not at the bottom - which makes sense so the 66 got a decent run at it. The drivers are generally none to pleased when they get looped with a heavy train at the bottom of a steep incline!

92028 has come off the cars having brought 6X41 up this morning and ran light engine to the usual stabling spot of Crewe Holding Sidings.

Paths are in later for what appears to be the 'relief' 66 coming up from Hams Hall GBRf via Crewe.

Not sure this is just a weekend recess (as happens fairly regularly with the 92s when they're on the cars) or if 92028, having completed 2 successful weeks on the cars, will be heading off to its next assignment on its rehabilitation journey...?

Here she is with the cars this morning at Winsford: https://flic.kr/p/VHpzwM

Going to be watching out for the china clay tanks later. Do we reckon it's going to be 044?

Yes.
Brought them down from Carlisle last night and will be needed to take them back through the tunnel.

Will they need 032 as well to take them through the tunnel? Or is it only 2 locos when they're loaded?

AFAIK 032 was last seen going to Willesden.

looked liked a grey 92 on the front of the tanks when i passed earlier although the view was blocked by a train of cargowagons unless it was a db 92 in the yard also
