Triple Grey 92044 was on the china clay tanks today (with 66724).

92032 appeared to be the allocated loco on TOPS, but stayed at Dollands Moor. Working wasn't delayed, so doesn't seem like it had an issue. DB have three of their six 92s (016/036/042) either in or on their way to Crewe IEMD and have been hiring-in GBRf's 'tunnel 92s' - usually 92032 - whilst they're short, so perhaps that's why 032 stayed at the tunnel and 044 took the train...?

92044 on 6S94 this morning:

92023 back on a full run tonight I believe - did the Dagenham/Garston cars week before last and some ECS workings last week to check all OK after c.2 months on the sidelines/trip to Brush.

The 3 loco move is the way they got the locos for the night's operations from Willesden to Wembley, but via Euston to drop off the loco for the Highlander. Can all be done with one driver.

After you saw the convoy, I believe 92033 (assuming it was leading) was left in the Engine Siding (next to P15) at Euston. 92023 and 86101 then returned (passed Camden Jnc just after 6pm) to Wembley, where 92023 would most likely have been hooked up to the 5S95 Highlander ECS and 86101 to the 5S96 Lowlander ECS.

92023 takes in the Highlander ECS from Wembley into Euston P15, 92033 then runs round from where it was left in the Engine Siding and takes 1S25 North. 92023 is left behind on the blocks and it then runs round onto the top of the Lowlander ECS on P1 (brought in by 86101) and takes 1S26 North.

86101 is then released from the blocks on P1 and usually runs into the Up Carriage Shed sidings where it stays for the night ready to come in on the top of the 1M11 Lowlander in the morning and do the ECS move for that.

...or something like that ;)

That's how I remember it when I filmed it! I've got my first tickets for the Caledonian Sleeper, going up on 25th July to Glasgow Central. Hoping for a Class 92, and I think I might be lucky but maybe I could get an 86 or 87, ort something decent on the ECS up in Glasgow.

86401 is pretty much the 'house' loco for the Polmadie/Glasgow ECS moves, so unless it's had to take a service down South in a hurry or you get really unlucky and it's stopped for wheel-turning or exam etc you should at least see that.

Good chance you'll have either 87002 or 86101 on the blocks at Euston when you board too having brought your ECS in.

With 92023 back in the mix, chances of a 92 on at least one of your legs should have increased. It's roughly about 3x 92s / 1x 90 (on average) at the moment although the 90s seem to work the Lowlander more (about twice as much as they do the Highlander). There's the option too of being up at 6-ish (I think it is) and seeing if you can catch the 90/92 that takes the Edinburgh portion forward from Carstairs.

Should be good whichever way.

STP paths in for tomorrow for light loco moves which could be for 66755 to come off the Dagenham/Garston cars it's been doing this last week...

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R02037/2017/07/10/advanced

...and for a replacement loco to head up from Crewe to Garston:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R02036/2017/07/10/advanced

... which potentially could be 92028 that's sat patiently at Crewe for the last 2 weeks waiting to get a proper load attached to it for the first time in over two years?? :D

Does that mean that a Class 92 isn't 'decent'?

Superb. I'll look forward to it! Either way, whatever the loco, it's going to be a good journey on the Sleeper no doubt.

All went smoothly for 92023 by the looks of it.

Yes - ECML diversions have finished now. Next major diversion I believe is the late August Bank Holiday weekend when it's running from Kings Cross up the ECML and there'll be 3 trains operating in certain directions on some nights over the long weekend (Highlander being split in effect). More info is on the Caley Sleeper Discussion thread a few pages back...

good to see i think ill go see it tommorow night nice change from the constant 66s on everything

I reckon (all being well mechanically of course) it will get a fairly long stint on the cars - make sure any wrinkles are ironed out.

With 023 back in the Sleeper mix they have 5x 92s on that, plus the 2x Freightliner 90s (+ 3 ECS locos) so sufficient traction there.

I expect they'll want to have 92028 prove itself on the cars so it can then go on to do tunnel/China Clay work and allow 032 and/or 044 to take their turns in Brush for the mods.

They may give it a run or two on the Sleeper (including ECS) at some point to confirm all is working correctly on that front (ETS etc) - possibly on 25th July when Leo's having his trip ;):lol:

Night of Fri 30th June was last time a 90 was on the Highlander - hopefully it stays that way for you!

You should get a 92 on at least one leg, fingers-crossed.

Yes - I don't think the 67 is going anytime soon on the Inverness portion. With 73971 returning from Brush on Sunday and 73966 going the other way today they've still only got 3x 73/9s in operation.
At least the 67 allocated currently is 67018 Keith Heller (DB Red with the big Canadian Maple Leaf) so has some interest. They've been switching the 67 fairly regularly recently, though.

The aforementioned 92 033 was stabled at Edinburgh today so is probably bringing the up Highlander south tonight.

67013 worked like a dream apparently - had to go to Crewe for a routine Exam in the end though.

Not sure if all the switching around since is for operational/availability reasons, or if the replacements have had niggles that have needed to be sorted and so swapped out.

Aye - only other option is 92010 which took the Lowlander Edinburgh portion ECS into Waverley - although if it's since left with 1C11 back to Carstairs that'll be ruled out too!

92010 has been doing the Edinburgh portion last few nights (and likewise 033 the Highlander for the last week or so) so suspect they'll stay as is - although they do sometimes switch them around.

Not 100% confirmed, but I believe the rest of the line up tonight is:

Up Lowlander (1M11): 92023
Down Highlander (1S25): 92014
Down Lowlander (1S26): 90044

Euston Lowlander ECS moves (5S96/1M11 in morning): 86101
Glasgow/Polmadie ECS: 86401

OT but didn't DRS always say that the Class 68s wouldn't be used on flask trains?

Maybe they did, however, operational needs means that the 68s (and maybe the 88s in time ;)) have to earn their corn somehow.

It's to the contrary now - the new(ish) MD (or equivalent) of DRS has stated he wants them on as many flask trains as possible. So anything where the RA allows it is now 2x 68, with the 37s only on routes where the RA is too low for 68s.

This working (which I see quite regularly when waiting for the 92 on 6X41!) used to be 2x37s every time. Now it's always 2x 68s.

Suspect it's all part of homogenising the fleet and using the new, efficient, cheaper to maintain, reliable etc locos rather than the rather old tractors.

Aside from that, these runs are being used currently as part of the "induction" of the new batch of 'plain' (TPE) 68s - pairing the new ones with an 'old' one - 68030 with 68003 in the vid above.

may be cheaper to maintain, but I was under the impression the 68 and 88s were costing more to buy/lease than the likes of a 66

but on the subject of 92s... I see a picture of GBRf 92032 in use coupled to a DBC 92 that's apparently unable to work solo due to overheating
