Hi all

I have to travel from Caersws to a Portsmouth Group station (not sure which one yet) on 29th May. I need to arrive by 3pm on the Saturday. I will be doing the return journey on the following day, ideally setting off late morning.

I would appreciate any advice on best route/fare options and whether split ticketing would be best and if so where. Web sites are currently suggesting £77.30 for the return journey.

In an ideal world I would like to avoid travelling by XC.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions etc.

Using advance singles you can currently do:
----------------------
08:37 Caersws to Newport, changing at Shrewsbury (arr 11:34)- £12
11:44 Newport to Portsmouth Harbour (arr 14:51) - £21
-
11.53 Portsmouth and Southsea to Caersws, 4 changes - £27

Total £60
----------------------
Or
Outward as above
-
10:47 Portsmouth and Southsea to Newport (arr 14:22)- £16.50 (bus P&S to Fareham)
16:54 Newport to Caersws, changing at Shrewsbury (arr 20:13) - £15.00

Total £64.50

-----

The return on option two takes longer and costs more, but invovles fewer changes and avoids cross country/Birmingham New Street.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think I am probably going to go via Newport as I haven't been down that way for ages. Might come back via London though.

Help much appreciated and thanks once again.
