Cable Car C1 Opening in Paris

I've just seen reports that today a new cable car opens in Paris: The C1 running from Villeneuve-Saint-Georges to Créteil. Unlike the cable car in London which is mostly for tourists, this appears to be intended as an actual commuter transport: It apparently runs 4.5 km taking 18 minutes, and is charged at the same rate as a bus journey. And when it's not operating (for example due to high winds) there will be a replacement bus service.

The 1st cable car in Île-de-France will complete the transport offer of the Île-de-France network by 2025. When commissioned, the C1 Cable will directly connect the cities of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, Limeil-Brévannes and Valenton to the Metro 8 Créteil – Pointe du Lac. This attractive and innovative mode of transport will provide a concrete response to the daily travel difficulties of the inhabitants of these towns in the Val-de-Marne.

Definitely an unusual choice of mode to use for a new transport route. Are there any other examples of cable cars being used in this way? I'd be curious to hear what people's impressions of it are, if anyone is able to try it out. (I'm based in London so way too far a journey for me to go look at it )

There are quite a few in South America, especially La Paz in Bolivia. I'm not aware of any others in Europe that are primarily for urban transport though

Paris (or more accurately, the southeastern suburb of Créteil) is about to open its first urban cable car line. But what made them build a cableway instead of going with a more conventional option like a bus, a tram, or extending the existing metro line? I went out to the end of Line 8 to see it for myself...

Looks a very cost effective and fast way to deliver high capacity public transport without adding to existing road congestion.

There were the old ones in Chiatura, Georgia - known as "Stalin's Coffins" and definitely not for the faint-hearted! All closed by 2018 and now gradually being replaced.

Do funiculars count? Cable cars on rails? Because Karlovy Vary in Czechia has two covered by the public transport system.

Another cable car has been under discussion since 2015 between Vélizy-Villacoublay and Boulogne-Billancourt/Pont de Sèvres. It's not progressed as far as a full study, largely because some the mayors of some of the communes served are not in favour - though others are.

The Teleo service in Toulouse is one. Works well over the river gorge and links a hospital with the university. Probably could do with some further expansion to the west.

There's one in Cologne that's relatively level and not very elevated. It crosses the Rhine well downstream of the main railway bridge (Hohenzollernbrucke). The left bank terminus serves the zoo. I don't think that it's integrated into the public transport fares system though, unlike the ferries
