If anyone of a track-bashing nature wants to "get" a bit of rare track, take note than on Monday to Thursday this week (12th to 15th Dec), c2c are running a scheduled passenger service, leaving Fenchurch Street at 20:30 each evening, over the Gas Factory Junction-Bow Junction section, during engineering works. (It will be the final train out of Fenchurch Street each evening).

Although I'm aware of the line having been used for emergency diversions when there is some form of serious delay or blockage between Barking and Limehouse, I can't recall the last time there was a scheduled passenger service on this stretch of line. Quite a few decades ago, I think, unless anyone knows different...

Details here http://www.c2c-online.co.uk/travel_...alterations/monday_12_to_thursday_15_december

Ah, I should have known it would have been mentioned somewhere here. I must have missed it while travelling around the Caucasus....

Bit annoyed that I won't be able to do it (realistically). I go into London for work one day most weeks - but as it happens not this week. And travelling all the way from one bit of Oxfordshire without a railway station (where I otherwise work) to FST just to do the stretch up to Stratford before returning to another, more remote, bit of Oxfordshire without a railway station....is far too much effort for too little gain.

Thanks, luckily I already covered all of C2C's mileage when I went on the Blue Train charter, :)

As I live in Limehouse, I might as well do this tonight. :D

Hmm, a trusted and generally well-informed source in c2c says the same timetable may run in 12 weeks time. We'll see...

Not strictly on topic but related. The Hastings DEMU 1001 unit is running a great sounding railtour along c2c lines on Saturday 24th March.

Saturday 24 March 2012: HDL Thames Tidal railtour
Calls at Hastings, St. Leonards Warrior Square, Battle, Etchingham, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Bromley South and Clapham Junction; then to run via Kew, Dudding Hill, Cricklewood, Carlton Road Junction, Upper Holloway, South Tottenham, Stratford, London Fenchurch Street (reverse and photo stop), Tilbury, Southend Central (Passenger stop), and Shoeburyness (Passenger Stop & recess train). Please note there are no plans to include Thameshaven or the private sidings at Shoeburyness because of access arrangements. Return from Shoeburyness & Southend Central, then via Laindon, Barking, Leytonstone, South Tottenham, Upper Holloway, Carlton Road, Dudding Hill, Kew, Clapham Junction (stop), then back to Hastings via normal HDL stops.

I don't really do railtours. But I may be tempted to book this one.
