C2C Excursion

An acquaintance has suggested I join in him in an excursion on the C2C..
He will travel on their Senior 65+ Rover ticket giving all day travel for £9.

Unfortunately I do not qualify for this ticket, but do hold a Senior railcard.

Journey intention would be Basildon to Fenchurch Street, the Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness via Tilbury Town, Shoeburyness to Basildon, with random breaks of journey.

It may help that I also hold a PAYG Oyster card with National Railcard discount.

Any suggestions as to what ticket(s) I should buy/use?

Buy a off-peak ticket from Shoeburyness to Fenchurch street with your railcard and you can break your journey as you want> assuming your not travelling during the morning peak?

If your travelling at the weekend, get the super off peak ticket instead.

You could probably get away with
Pitsea - Fenchurch st day return £9 with railcard starting short at Basildon and a Basildon - Shoeburyness day return 5.75 with railcard starting short at Pitsea.
Total £14.75

Neither have BOJ restrictions according to BR fares

Why is it limited to 65+ only?

Its all about protecting revenue, focusing the product on people who have retired and wish to explore Essex for leisure, rather than giving money off for people still in work.

But that's surely not valid for the OP's final leg from Shoeburyness?

Update - I decided to opt for the suggestion from LA50041, and booked them on C2C web site today for travel on 19 April. I did get the 40% discount so combined fare was £8.95, 5p less than the Over 65 Rover, but not quite as flexible. To test NRE I called them to ask their opinion. After extensive discussions with someone with a strong Asian accent who had never heard of Basildon, and couldn't understand the concept of a round trip, I gave up. I think he might eventually have told me to buy 3 singles.

I always thought it was strange that the Senior Rover was not just given the same conditions as senior railcard eligibility. That way, if one is a Senior Railcard holder one can use that as proof of entitlement, rather than needing to carry ID.
