Given that the large amount of low-value train journeys I take every year, I wish that I can be compensated by any delays occurring on my journeys. I have noticed that c2c offers Automatic Delay Repay with threshold starting from 2 minutes, which the vast majority of my journey on busy routes would easily qualify, that it will be a massive benefit if I can load my season ticket into it.

Is anyone here a commuter using the c2c smartcard with a season ticket? If so, what is your experience for getting Automatic Delay Repay for journeys with the smartcard?

In particular, my usual journeys are West Hampstead Thameslink - Farringdon (my usual morning commute train is nearly always delayed by 2 to 3 minutes), Farringdon - Kentish Town (delayed nearly daily by 2 to 3 minutes in the evening peak), Gospel Oak - West Hampstead (the adherence of timetable is basically a mess), and occasionally Farringdon - Herne Hill or West Hampstead - Herne Hill. I am aware of some National Rail only season tickets which can be used to do all of these journeys, but can these season tickets fulfilled onto a smartcard? If so, can it operate the barriers on all the intermediate stations along all possible valid routes?

I think you'll find that the automatic delay repay of 2 minutes or more is restricted to c2c routes. The rationale is that the c2c network is pretty much self contained (apart from the link to Liverpool Street) and thus most delays will be down to c2c themselves.

I can't see any terms and conditions on the website saying that it is restricted to c2c routes.

The conditions specified are:
  1. c2c smartcard holder
  2. ticket on smartcard
  3. tap in and tap out
  4. online account on c2c
Unfortunately I can't test it out yet because the journeys I am planning to make soon are either:
  • covered by my existing Oyster Travelcard, or an extension of it on a through train
  • are by Super Off-Peak tickets which can't be loaded onto a smartcard
