C231 start up at Downpatrick

Over 30 years after withdrawal and almost 12 since the engine was last started, ITG volunteers carried out vital checks and tests, installed fresh batteries and attempted to started former CIE loco C231...

I assume this is a 'B' class GM engine and not an original 'C' crossley engine. I remember a trip over 50 year ago from the boat and the smoke was so thick, black and plentiful I thought it was a steam engine until I seen at westland row it was a 'C'.

@Strathclyder - can't make any promises for C231 playing an active role in October. Keep an eye on the ITG website or social media for the latest. At worst, I'd say it will be on display.

@bigdelboy - you're right, while currently a 'B' class in technical terms, the livery demanded the 'C' prefix. Not sure a Crossley would have been so keen to start...
