From what I am reading, this can be a troublesome combination! I have read ukneilw's great "howto", as well as everything else I can find, but I am still having problems opening BVE4
I have 2GB of RAM, a Pentium D 3.0gig CPU, a nIDIA Geforce 7300LE graphics card with latest driver (163.69). I have followed ukneilw's screed to the letter...loaded the three .dll files...
.NET 1 & 2 are installed. A look through program files indicates all components are where they should be, but I STILL cannot open BVE4. When I open...from desktop shortcut, or from All Programs, or from the icon in Prog files, I get the same thing...or one of two things. Following the Display Mode Config page, when I click OK either screen goes black for 5 - 10 seconds, then desktop returns, or a Vista dialog box advises BVE has stopped working so Windows will close it and advise if/when a solution is found. I have reloaded BVE4 four times now but the same prob continues. Would really appreciate any thoughts you may have.

I see in this forum an exchange between dan atki and ukneilw. I have checked event log and find I am getting exactly the same error message as dan atki. As there were to be personal messages between these guys on the topic, I wonder if the issue was ever resolved. If in the affirmative, I'd love to hear how it was overcome. Thanks guys. (I find I cannot send dan atki a pm as I am still a newbie here and restrictions apply!)
