25th sept normanton to man airport
27th sept man airport to normanton

Is it possible to buy tickets for this journey and back online anywhere without having to be tied to a certain train?

Or is it possible to go to any staffed ticket office and buy them beforehand? or is just a pay on the day job?
Thanks

Online, if the ticket type isn't "Advance" (i.e. Off Peak or Anytime) you are not tied to a train (but can elect to get reservations for it)

You can also buy tickets from a station in advance for all ticket ticket types in most cases, or you can pay on the day (not for Advance though, naturally)

And except for Advance tickets (which restrict you to specific trains), the price will be the same whenever and wherever you book tickets.

Might not be relevant to you, but TPE accept Advances on later (up to 3 hours I think) trains from the airport if you get confirmation of a delay to your flight from the airport station.

Normanton near Wakefield, or Normanton in Derbyshire?

Most interesting. Is this documented anywhere? Is there a required connection time between train and plane?

From here: http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/train-tickets/tickets-explained/

The Airport Advance has replaced the Airport Getaway ticket. It is a single fare train ticket with the same terms and conditions as Advance tickets. Although the ticket is train specific, as a concession, journeys starting at Manchester Airport and John Lennon Airport can be made up to 3hrs after specified departure time, or on the next available TransPennine Express service, if proof of delayed flight can be produced. This is the only difference to other Advance tickets. Should your flight be delayed, please ensure that you obtain documentation from your airline that this is the case.

And from here: http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/train-tickets/print-at-home/

Tickets are train specific; however to accommodate inbound flight delays, journeys from John Lennon & Manchester Airport can be made on the next available TransPennine Express service up to 3 hours after the departure time stated on the ticket. Where no services depart within this time, the next TPE service may be used. Passengers wishing to use this concession must have their tickets endorsed at the Ticket Office before boarding the train. This is the only difference to other Advance tickets.

Restriction code is TE

Interesting to see it documented so clearly. While clearly to the passenger's benefit and therefore not to be objected to, is that allowed under the rules of fares simplification?!! I thought all tickets in the category "Advance" were supposed to have the same terms & conditions <D

Ticket type is "Airport Advance" ;)

Same with any promo fare types (e.g. EC PROMO 1ST) which often have additional restrictions, e.g. not changeable, even for a fee.

Are they promotional fares though? I think they are permanent fares in which case they should conform to the rules here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/simple_fares.html

I don't agree with that of course - TPE are being customer friendly and that is to be welcomed. But it should give some thought to people/groups who praised simplification as a great, positive thing for passengers, that stuff like this isn't supposed to be allowed!

In the recent DfT fares consultation document they kept going on about how smartcard ticketing was going to bring much more flexibility and variation in the validity of different types of tickets, so it seems they at least are having a change of heart on simplification...
