Buxton is getting more stores since the University of Derby opened in the Devonshire Hospital.

Subway, BBs, Caffé Nero, KFC, Pizza Express, Julian Graves, Waitrose, Passion Perfume and GAME are just a few that have opened in the last couple of years since the opening of the college/university.

^ I know I shouldn't support "Big Brands", but it's good to see a place get lots more in it. We're the same up here. 24hr supermarkets, subways on every corner... Thing is, we have no (legal) local merchants, so it just boosts the economy.

Yeah, it's nice to have little independent places more than the big brands, but it's good to see that we have more of a choice of where to eat and such.

We also got a Tescos and Sainsburys :( Evil stores.

We had a Kwik Save, which I think was taken over by Somerfields. But then that's now Sainsburys.

Somerfields ARE extict. They give out vouchers for free chocolate just so that people run around London looking for one of their stores!

How is this related to coverage? :p
Well, looking for a Somerfields gave us Clapham street coverage. We had just come off some tube and (highly successful) branch coverage too. Not sure how it got onto the subject of shops following Aureol's coverage map link though...

I see this has been split from another topic with no explanation, making Tom and me look a little mad asking how it's related to coverage...

Edit: Woah - what were the chances of me reading it between david splitting it and him explaining it

I'm not really sure what happened in the whole Kwik Save / Somerfield affair. At one point they used to be owned by the same company, but then the Somerfield section was bought out by another company I think, and the company split. It was all very confusing! However, Somerfield are far from extinct. Theres a good few around here. Sadly, they have downgraded our former Safeway supermarket into more of a convenience store, with mostly basket tills as opposed to checkout aisles, less floorspace although strangely, shorter opening hours :???:. The new Sainsbury's Local seems to be competing well with Somerfield now, and it's open better hours with better quality food :)

There's a thread about Buxton :D How very hellfire.

Yes, our Somerfield was turned into a Waitrose, and our Kwik save owned by Somerfield was turned into a Sainsburys local.

And there's a CO-OP just across from Kwik Save/Sainsbury's isn't there?

I seem to remember coming out of Kwik Save with a giant bottle of Lucozade because that's all they had drink wise (about 2 or 3 days before they closed) then spotting the CO-OP and thinking 'Why didn't I see that before?'

Have we missed any other supermarkets/large convenience stores in Buxton?

Not much help when you're in Sarf London, with a cut-out from the Metro (or equivilent) :p

What part of South London are you in? There's 2 in Camberwell, a posh one in Dulwich, Sydenham, Catford, Tulse Hill, West Norwood where I used to get my 'supplies' for school 8). Oh and the magical bus can be seen in 5/6 of those places :|

There's at least two in Edinburgh.

There is a bus to Somerfield's HQ from the top of the road which goes from the road that is at the top of the top of the top of my road[1] every 20 mins!

About 1km from the aforementioned bus stop on the main road is a medium sized store which is a Somerfield, about 250m down that road is a smaller store and directly opposite that is a petrol station with a Somerfield attached!

According to Somerfield's website, there are five stores in a 2.7km radius from my house, two of them even share the same postcode!

[1] Not as far as it sounds - only about 700m!

My nearest Somerfield is 12.06 miles away :D

Typically because in the town we have these...
"The town's Tesco store is expanded into a two-storey Tesco Extra, making it the one of the largest Tesco in stores in the country." Something to be proud of I'm sure!
We also have a Morrisons and Sainsburys - Soon to be getting a Lidl for the poor dears who lost their Somerfield last year. Shame really, their leaflets use to pay quite a bit to my paper round! Oh well. We have about 5 Co-ops scattered about and a few Polski shops.

Yippy Doodle Banbury

Waitrose is by far the best shop, though I have to question whether its ethical standards are as good as they like to think? I'd say their packaging and labelling is far worse than Sainsburys.

Just 1 Tesco, an Asda (both 24 hours and accross the raod from each other) 2 Morrisons ex Safeway, (a closed Somerfield) and a few Framfoods and such rubbish. Also Lidls and Aldis on every street corner.

Problem is: I hate Tesocs, but I have to shop there because Asda's too small and filled with crazy bargain hunters, so you get squashed, and there's very little choice or speciality ingrediants, so Tesco it is for me :(

Also, our Tesco has been expanded with more clothes and stuff.

Also, nearby, a Sainsbury's, a coupla huge Asdas and Morrisions, and a Tesco 24 hours (within 10 minutes of 'tother one).
