According to Network Rail at http://www.networkrail.co.uk/Freight-diversion-between-Buxton-and-Stockport.aspx the Buxton area freights are being diverted over the passenger line via Dove Holes during the Christmas period:
Freight trains from the Buxton area ... are being diverted over the Christmas and New Year period while we renew track and drainage in the Dove Holes railway tunnel.
...
As a result of the diversions, up to 24 freight trains a day with as many as 22 wagons each, will be using the route over the holiday period

Anyone going out with a camera?

Edit: just spotted the photo on the NR page has a china clay train and a GW-style signal!

...which should give you a clue as to the accuracy of the "24 trains a day" claim!

In reality, most stone/cement trains from the Peak Forest area are cancelled
this week due to the Christmas holidays, with just a handful of 'industrial'
workings, such as the power station and Tunstead to Northwich limestone
services actually booked to run, most of which run in the dark anyway!
