I'm working the SRPS tour to Buxton on Saturday, can anyone recommend good places for rail or landscape photography nearby (up to around 20 mins away by train)
In the peaks in general if you don't mind a hike you can get some good panoramic shots from the top of Mam Tor. If you face north east ( I think ) there is s railway, not sure which one though.
Take a train to Chapel-en-le-Frith out of Buxton, and walk up the hill along the gravel track, which ascends gradually round the contours of the hill, that passes beneath the line beyond the west (Manchester) end of the station. There you will find a few vantage points that seem to be quite well known with railway photographers.
If you begin to follow the track up the hill, then you're aiming to take the first path diverging to your right and after a short while then it should become clear.
