Are any buses still in service with roller blinds (handwind) excluding in London?

SL52 REP (KU52 RXX) that Reptons Coaches have still has roller blinds. It is their spare bus as they have three E200 for a PVR of three. So whenever one of the three E200 is out of use they use this bus. It still has roller blinds on it.

Sadly it’s only got blinds for the numbers though, with destinations relying on a bit of paper stuck either in the blind box or windscreen. It’s a shame as it’s been that way since they got it in 2013, and it is otherwise a very smart and tidy motor like the rest of their fleet.

I’m not sure how it works, but Go Coach has former Abellio London MMC YX66WFE which is still complete with TFL style blinds and numbers.

The BMC Condor school buses run by First West Yorkshire, CT Plus and Keighley Bus all have manual blinds, as do the B10BLE school buses also run by the latter

Yes i am surprised that Reptons Coaches have still not installed destination blinds on the front after all these years of owning this bus. You would think at least they would have the old Countryliner or Sunray Travel (or whoever used to own it) blinds they could use which show the destinations for the 478 at least. Although the side destination blinds next to the door seems to still be there but it just displays "Welcome Aboard" every time i have seen it.

Yes indeed it seems that Go Coach have five of them and all five of them have roller blinds.

• YX66 WFD (8343)
• YX66 WFE (8344)
• YX66 WFF (8345)
• YX66 WFG (8346)
• YX66 WFH (8347)

I am very surprised that Go Coach have installed their own roller blinds in it as normally when operators buy an ex TFL bus they replace the roller blinds with an LED display straight away.

What is even more surprising is that ex TFL E200 MMC were for sale. They seem like such new buses to be withdrawn already. Getting rid of buses that are only about five or six years old is crazy. No wonder TFL are in such financial trouble.

But it is certainly nice that they have installed their own roller blinds. I like the traditional roller blinds. Good for taking photos too as LED displays often do not display well in photos.

The decision to sell will have been Abellio's. TfL won't have played any part in it.

Have they replaced them with newer buses? If so there's a good chance they'll be leased, so will have been replaced by new ones with no real difference in monthly payments.

Do London buses have hand wind blinds? They're blinds but every time I've seen one change it appears to be automated - they roll through at a constant speed and often go slightly after what was wanted and it jumps back. Seems like an electronic system controlling it.

How does that work then? How does the control gear know when to stop winding?

They are Mobitec Smartblinds - supplied by McKenna - the driver changes the setting from a control panel in the cab and an electric motor moves the blind. Electronic sensors ensure the display is correctly aligned.

The Go Coach E200MMC's are leased from Abellio following TfL contract changes. As they are leased, it may be that Go Coach cannot alter the destination equipment.

There's a lot of pictures on flickr of Go Coach's Enviro 400 fleet which have retained their roller blinds after repaint and refurbishment. So presumably Go-Coach has taken that decision not to replace those units - they did replace on earlier ex London purchases with LED destination screens.

Cardinal Buses have a few in their fleet that are/were installed with roller blinds.

Darts SK52 MMU/LF06 YRK and Tridents SN03 EAE/LX53 JYO are the service vehicles retaining blinds. LF06 YRK's are electronic rather than handwind though.

Helms of Eastham/Aintree Coachline are running a couple of ex London Scania Esteems which have had local roller blinds made and fitted into the original units. He did have some tridents with london style local blinds fitted too but not sure if he still does.

Richmonds of Barley have an Optare Solo YJ05XMY that they have owned since new.

As far as I'm aware it still had roller blinds earlier in 2022.
