Buses to Abbey Wood

Good morning,

Next Saturday 25 Jan, I need to travel to Yarnton Way in Abbey Wood South East London, I need to be there just after 1000 am. I am travelling from SWTrainland and don't have zone one on my pass. I was going to do what I did last year and the get the overground from Clapham jct to Denmark Hill, change to go onto Lewisham and change again to get to Abbey Wood, last time the connections all worked fine, but this year there seem to be track works on the last bit around Abbey Wood Station.

Would a sensible alternative be to get to Lewisham as planned, then get the 180 bus, which in fact I think I was going to pick up out side Abbey Wood Station to get to Yarnton way. How long is does that bus take from Lewisham to Abbey Wood and does it stop near Lewisham station? Or does anyone have any better suggestions please? Many Thanks.

It would appear that you are attending the Erith Model Railway Exhibition at which I shall be attending.....!!!
I do not know the bus services as I shall arriving by car from Erith direction.

Depending on traffic, it takes about an hour on the 180, which stops just outside Lewisham station.

Consider also a train to Bexleyheath and then bus from there.

Slightly more convoluted is DLR to Greenwich, train to Plumstead then pick up the 180 bus there.

Going via London Bridge may be better, as the trains to Plumstead are running from there.

There is NR ticket validity on the DLR between Lewisham and Greenwich next Saturday, so I'd use that to Greenwich and then go on Southeastern to Plumstead (4tph instead of the usual 6tph) where you can change for the replacement bus service or numerous bus services including the 177 and 180.

The 'spider maps' include a detailed map of town centres (e.g. Lewisham, Woolwich etc) which shows exactly which stops each route calls at. (Lewisham is within Lewisham borough, Greenwich, Woolwich, Plumstead and Abbey Wood are within Greenwich borough)

The maps for each route used to be very good - you could zoom in and see individual stops. This function seems to have gone, and you get a red wiggly line across a two inch square bit of screen, which is pretty damn useless, and gets more useless the longer the route...

alternatively, there is a traditional bus map for south east london - http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/maps/buses/pdf/south-east-london-bus-map.pdf (opens as PDF file) - this does exist as a printed map, but finding anywhere that has them is not all that easy.

Timetable for route 180 here - this site has all London bus routes (although bear in mind that running buses in inner London is not an exact science)

The 180 is the last bus I'd use to be honest. It goes the long way round via Greenwich and Charlton, where as it may be quicker to walk into Lewisham town centre and get the 54 or 122 to Woolwich and then change for another bus to Abbey Wood.

However, I'd personally use my previous suggestion to use the DLR and Southeastern to Plumstead.

Many thanks for all your replies, I think I will do as suggested taking the overground, southeastern & DLR to Plumstead and the 180 from there which goes to Yarnton Way for the model rail show.
