The differentiation between compulsory stops and request stops was removed in 2007. Buses are only required to stop at any stop if the driver believes someone may be waiting or if the bell has been pressed.

Fair enough, perhaps some drivers still err on the side of caution, especially at night when the next bus is half an hour away. I must still commend London buses on running so late into the night!

Instructions to drivers from TfL from late 2010 is to stop at any stop where someone is waiting. The companies are marked down in Mystery Traveller Surveys where this does not happen.

If your bus doesn't stop in London complain to TfL - they do care about it.

Outside London complain to the Traffic Commissioner for your area. They'll only tend to do anything about it if they get a few but they have a lot of powers over bus operators.

Waiting for the Cumfybus in Old Swan, Liverpool a few years ago now. Turned the corner, put my arm out, driver clearly saw me as he appeared to be laughing on the way past. I ask, what was that all about?

If you mean the stop on St Oswald's St, they don't stop there.
If you mean on Prescot Road, then I have no idea, I've never seen them do that.

When they ran just to Broadgreen Hospital they used to (very frequently!) not go through Old Swan if they were running late and just go down Edge Lane instead. I stopped getting that bus because of this.
Although it's better now that they run from Prescot they still have a nasty habit of leaving 5 minutes early.

I pay cash fares rather than have a pass, partly so that they suffer some financial penalty if they don't run to the timetable!

That sounds like a great solution for London.

It works well in Edinburgh (once you're used to it and stop running to the back bus) but they generally only need to do it there at the few stops near the City Centre. In London it would really slow things down.

FirstGroup buses never go past stops.

(That implies they actually start when you try turn the engine on)

I remember when they didn't go through Old Swan, that was when they changed the service when it was for a short time the number 11. Then the service was withdrawn by Arriva and Cumfybus took over as the 139 which I think was the first Cumfybus service to run into Liverpool city centre.

The stop that I had the problem at was the one outside the church near to the junction of Prescot Road and Queens Drive. This was probably the worst experience I've had with a bus service before. I'm sure some people have had worse.

The reason I stopped getting this bus was because it was either 5 minutes early or very late, especially in the morning rush hour, usually late.
